Lordsburg City Council approved Tamarac Builders of Lordsburg for a project at Pyramid Village with a bid of $134,927. The contract outlines the required work and terms for completion.
Lordsburg police will intensify patrols in school districts during hours, using radar to enforce speed limits and other laws. Citations will be issued for speeding. Local contractors and bids for housing unit updates and water meters are noted, with the High Sierra Consultant Firm overseeing modernization.
Beral will furnish the advertisement space for M in Lordsburg, arranging placement in the local advertising section and coordinating with the newspaper for timely publication.
The City was informed at the Wednesday meeting that the Southern Pacific Depot here would be razed by the end of November. Officials discussed offering a caboose or box car for a park and possible museum use for Railroad Avenue properties. The council seeks input and considers converting nearby buildings into a park then installing the caboose as a tourist draw.
The Traffic Safety Bureau reports New Mexico had the highest motor vehicle crash fatality rate in 1987 at 4.1 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles, far above the U.S. rate of 2.55. NM also led in deaths per 100,000 population at 37.9 and in deaths per 100,000 for all accidental deaths at 66.5.

A Holiday Food Show at the Lordsburg Community Center on December 13 from 10:00 a.m. to noon features Judy Miller of Texas New Mexico Power Company and Bethleen Swapp Extension Home Economist with demonstrations on edible items from Picnic Pleasers and Birthday Favorites to turkey and trimmings. All are welcome to watch and nibble.
