Citizens Raise Alarm Over Lordsburg Hospital Closures
A November town meeting at Lordsburg City Hall warned that Hidalgo General Hospital and Sunshine Rest Home may close after Dr. Norman Crouch leaves December 20. Hospital administrator Sara Callaway and board chair Mildred Vermillion led the two hour session with about 100 attendees seeking reasons behind the departure and potential job losses for 150 to 200 workers.

Wisconsin Man Arrested For Burglary At Assembly of God
Rev W L Sanders reported a burglary at the Assembly of God Church on Animal Street November 17. William Ray Tucker of Racine was arrested near Animas and Sixth Streets, fitting the minister’s description. He’s held on burglary and criminal damage charges with $3100 bond. two watches were found near the pulpit.

Kevin T. Connelly 27 of Gulfport Mississippi was pronounced dead at the scene on I 10 about 9 30 a m Sunday morning November 20 by Deputy Medical Examiner Don McNutt He was a passenger and co driver in a 18 wheel truck westbound on I 10 George Hallaway said Connelly told him someone planned to kill him then pulled the emergency brake opened the passenger door and jumped from the truck at 60 mph Lordsburg Police weekly report lists three false alarms 36 public assistance calls five bar calls two injury accidents and one non injury crash two vandalism cases five larceny complaints two burglaries and one attempted burglary.

Animas Admins Set Meetings in Rodeo Animas and Playas
The Animas School Administrators will hold meetings in Rodeo Animas and Playas to discuss school policies with parents. Attendees may complete a questionnaire sharing views. schedule includes Rodeo Catholic Hall December 7 Animas Jr Hi Library December 13 and Playas Community Center December 15 both at 7:00 PM. A separate Lordsburg economic study input session is planned November 29 1977 at 3:00 PM in Deming Council chambers.

New D.A. Endorses Plea Bargaining in County Courts
Sixth District Attorney J C Robinson says plea negotiations are appropriate under guidelines to speed justice and save taxpayer money. He mailed a letter to attorneys in Grant Luna and Hidalgo Counties outlining acceptable factors for negotiating pleas including lack of prior felonies, good reputation, cooperation with law enforcement, offense seriousness, and defendant competence. He also stated satisfaction with how former District Attorney E C Serna's office papers were handled after Serna's death and the police incineration incident.

Mountain Bell will charge for directory assistance starting Dec 7 with a new 1 411 local lookup number active Dec 1. Each month includes three free calls and a 30 cent credit, then 10 cent per call after. Some calls are exempt, including out of state, coin and mobile phones, and handicapped users with exemption often available. Lordsburg to install four way stop signs at Animas and Second streets.
