Names of 36 jurors drawn from Hidalgo County for the fall term of the Sixth Judicial District Court have been announced with H. Vearle Payne presiding. The list includes William Ly tle Edna G. Frank Bowman, longtime Baner Mining Company superintendent for four years, was elected director of the New Mexico Mining Association at its November 4 and 5 meeting in Santa Fe. He has worked in the mining industry 20 years in Lordsburg, with Mrs Bowman attending the event.
More than 1 000 delegates of the New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau plan to convene November 27 30 at the Western Skies Hotel Albuquerque marking the 40th anniversary of the state bureau founded in 1920 Las Cruces. Topics include wheat surplus farm labor the Federal wool incentive program Pueblo Water Rights doctrine and changes in New Mexico dairy law. W B McAlister Portales dairyman will preside with cooperation from Bernalillo Sandoval County Farm Bureau and the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce. A Talent Find contest for New Mexico youth precedes the convention dance at 7 30 p m November 20.
Blanche Cadman Lucero in Santa Fe draws 12000 yearly as top woman in state government. Audrey Immel and Inez Gill are among the best paid women in health and finance. Several others in health welfare and purchasing earn 7200 to 8000. A shift is expected as new leaders may replace high paid officials.
On November 18 1960 the State Engineer issued Order No 84 declaring the Lordsburg Valley Underground Water Basin. The basin covers about 211000 acres from 10 miles northwest of Lordsburg to 24 miles southeast and about one mile west of Separ. The declaration aims for orderly development and gives the State Engineer jurisdiction over wells within the area to prevent improper spacing and excessive appropriations. Early hearings will be held for protested applications. new appropriations will be accepted. Existing drilled but undeveloped wells require permits before continuing development. Administration will be by District III Supervisor L T Putnam of Deming New Mexico.
The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce elected four new directors Har old Bishop John Jeffus Jack McGhee and Richard Rice. A counting committee of Earle Kerr Ed Hitson John Jeffus and Pete Chase tallied 68 ballots on Tuesday November 22 at the Chamber office. The next meeting on December 19 will elect the president and vice president. The chamber will move its offices to the former Western Union building on Railroad Ave with an open house to be announced.
Jill Bowman, one of 24 contestants in the Make It Yourself With Wool Contest, won first place in the junior division for a wool dress she made. She earned the Earl Powell Scholarship to New Mexico State University as judging took place during the New Mexico Wool Growers Association quarterly meeting in Las Vegas last Saturday.
The Junior Auxiliary of Robert Swan Unit No. 30 hosted a Kid-Nap Coffee at Mrs. C. C. Fuller’s home on Saturday afternoon November 19 to raise funds for this year’s Auxiliary activities. President Charlotte Robertson served coffee and doughnuts, with members assisting, and a brief business meeting followed.

Maverick Booster Club schedules a regular meeting on Monday November 28 at 7 30 p m in City Hall. President Pete Maxwell urges all members to attend the session.
Lordsburg Elks Club urges donations of deer hides to aid disabled New Mexico veterans. For every three hides, a tanned cow hide is given to veterans hospitals for use in therapy and leather goods. Hides may be delivered to Douglas Strain or Animas Valley Growers Association, care of Dick Hamilton.
