Man Killed After High Speed Chase Near Lordsburg
A man shot to death Wednesday after a high speed chase near Lordsburg is unnamed pending investigation. He allegedly fled a Las Cruces gas station after pulling a gun, fired at officers, and was later killed when authorities blocked his car near Deming. Warranted for aggravated assault and larceny, the suspect’s identity remains withheld. Also noted: VFW leaders visit Lordsburg Friday and a two day Annual Homemaker Council Arts and Crafts Show at the Lordsburg Cultural Center.

Services Held Monday For City Councillor Diaz
Pablo A Diaz longtime Lordsburg city councillor died suddenly on a hunting trip in Grant County at age 60. Rosary was at Heather Chapel with Father Soliz, mass at St Josephs and burial at Shakespeare Cemetery with National Guard honors. Survived by wife Iola, five sons, daughter Doris Estrada, mother Carmen Diaz, five brothers and two sisters. Pallbearers include three Bataan POWs. Diaz served in civil service 30 years and led local groups including Hidalgo County Credit Union.

Animas Student Receives American Farmer FFA Degree
Donald Richins of Animas earned the American Farmer Degree during the 52nd National FFA Convention in Kansas City Missouri on November 8. He joins a select group representing about one percent of all FFA members and receives a gold key and certificate with a cash travel award funded by national sponsors.
