Lordsburg Senior Band Opens Concert Season Saturday

The Lordsburg Senior Band, with 73 students from eighth through twelfth grade, will open its season Saturday evening in the Central School gym. Many members have been in the all state band and the group is known as one of the hardest working in the district. Rehearsals occur before school and on Monday nights.

LDS Church Dedicates Virden Ward Building

The Virden Ward of the LDS Church dedicated a new chapel and classrooms after remodeling costing about $62,000. A large audience attended the Sunday evening service with a full program including a ladies trio, organ solo, male quartet, poems, remarks by church leaders, and dedicatory address. Football Classic of Season at Stadium

The LHS senior and junior classes contest a football classic at the stadium with 7:30 kickoff. Senior captains Gayle Busselle and Pat Rhodes lead, junior captains Becky Turrentine and Mary Louise Chavez direct, Oscar Diaz coaches the juniors, and Ralph Craig, Bob Henning, and Jesse Austin officiate. Admission is 40 cents for adults.

Mrs Scharline Heads Lordsburg Ground Observer Corps Post

Work began toward organizing a Ground Observer Corps post in Lordsburg. A City Hall meeting Tuesday night drew supporters and Boy Scouts, with M/Sgt Albert F. Carter of the Air Force Tucson Filter Center showing training films. Mrs Leslie Scherling was named chief observer to recruit at least 200 volunteers committing one hour weekly.
