Lettuce Crop Proves Profitable in Animas Valley

Four farmers in San Juan County trialed lettuce on good soil and seed. From 27 acres, about 7000 crates of head lettuce were harvested and nets averaged near $400 per acre. Sammy Macareer of Phoenix contracted for the harvest as workers harvested heads.

Margaret Richards Named Sun Princess in Southwest Sun Carnival

Margaret Richards will present Lordsburg as Sun Princess in the Southwest Sun Carnival in El Paso on January 1, 1952. The drawing for the Sun Princess occurred in Hotel Hidalgo lounge under the Chamber of Commerce auspices on a Thursday evening, with sponsors including Lordsburg business and professional women,-Western Star Temple, Pythian Sisters, Lordsburg Elks, Legion Auxiliary, Florans of Foreign Wars, Beta Sigma Phi, Lordsburg Woman's Club and others.

Cast Named For Junior Play On December 6

Lordsburg residents who acted in 1935 will attend the juniors performance Here Comes Charlie directed by Miss Annie Ruth Taylor. Lueme Rich stars as Charlie with John Linguist as Larry Elliott and Sara Gass now Mrs Edwin Brown previously played Charlie. Joycersen plays Larrys aunt with Fred Weldon as Uncle Alec, the page 6 continues.

District Officers Visit F W and Auxiliary

A large delegation from Silver City and Bayard attended the district meeting of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its auxiliary held Tuesday evening in this city. Bataan Post, No. 3099 and its auxiliary were host and hostess and the meeting was held in the post's rooms at the armory.

Fire Ball Seen In Redrock Area

Lester Parsons of Redrock and echoe Lug drive reported seeing a red fire ball in the river bed area Tuesday night. Parsons said the ball rose high, burst lighting tree tops and stretched away like rubber before vanishing with no sound. He plans a search of the sight area.

Mrs. H Rountree Heads Hidalgo Christmas Seal Sale

Mrs Homer Rountree will chair the 1951 Hidalgo County Christmas Seal Sale announced by S Jack Heather president of the Hidalgo Tuberculosis Association. The sale runs Nov 19 to Dec 25 and is part of the 45th annual national effort by 3000 affiliated groups to raise funds to fight tuberculosis.

Miss Hospitality Bobbie Ombley to Lead Lordsburg Cavalcade

Mrs J Marvin Kimbley known as Miss Hospitality will head Lordsburg in the U S Highway 70 Hospitality Week events. She will travel to Deming on Wednesday November 28 with the Lordsburg group to Las Palomas Mexico for the fiesta and supper. She will greet the cavalcade at the city limits Thursday November 29 with the key to Lordsburg and accompany tours to Duncan Clifton Morene and Safford Aziz. Citizens may join without invitations or Chamber membership. Pennants will identify the Lordsburg group. notify Ben R Myers or the Chamber of Commerce.

Lunch Room Receives Grade A For Sanitation

State Health Inspector Dale Readal rated the school lunch room in sanitation as Grade A after a thorough check of the lunchroom food storage and preparation areas. The facility earned a "very clean" rating alongside the top grade.

Oren M. Jones Killed in Auto Accident

Oren M. Jones died in an auto crash on Saturday morning November 17 about 11 30 a m ten and a half miles west of town while returning from Cotton City gin. He collided head on with a west bound semi trailer during a snow storm. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a m at Heatherneral Home with Bishop Lynn Hatch presiding. Burial followed in Virden cemetery. Pallbearers included Harry Jones Archie Jones Virgil Jones Jos F Moffett and Edward Jepson. He is survived by his wife and a two year old son plus his mother Ella Jones and others.

Know Your Specialized Schools Program Comes to Lordsburg

The Delta Kappa Gamma and PTA sponsor a Know Your Specialized Schools program with a demonstration cup from New Mexico School for the Deaf. In Lordsburg, events occur Thursday November 29 with two children's programs at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., plus a public program at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Thomas Dillon of the New Mexico School for the Deaf leads the group, assisted by Mrs Mills. all parents and teachers are invited.
