Judge Ryan Says Grand Jury Like an Appendix

In Hidalgo county Judge Raymond R. Ryan argues that grand juries are wasteful and could be abolished to cut costs, estimating each term saves 70 to 2000 dollars per county. The Hidalgo court opened with officials present and four true bills and three no bills returned by the grand jury, including murder charges against Owens Upshaw Tarango and Hico.

Christian Church Notes Rally Day Plans and Bazaar

The Christian Church reports a strong Bible school day and anticipates raising part of Rally Day funds. Christmas exercises are planned for Christmas Eve with a fine program. Hughes and Hughes Bound Over in Ford Theft Case

Hughes and Hughes, charged with stealing a Ford at Mi ami, were brought into the U S Commissioner's court last week. On the second hearing Tuesday they were bound over to the March term of U S District court. George furnished bond and L E Bates, special officer of the Department of Justice, took Bramble to Luna county jail to await grand jury action.

The W M B will meet with Mrs S M Chase Friday for tea and program. Commissioner J B Foster returned from Chicago where his daughter is ill but better. Mrs Foster remains. Mr and Mrs J D Hood of Guymon Oklahoma and Mr and Mrs J Q Denny of Los Angeles passed through town en route to the coast. they stayed at Ownby hotel overnight. Mr Denny is an old newspaper man and called at this office.

Harry Biehn federal agent Sheriff Oscar Allen and Chief Deputy Earle Kerr raided a small yellow house near the ball park on Saturday morning, seizing two copper stills four barrels of mash one gallon of whiskey corn and sugar.
