Animas Benefit Carnival a Decade's Best Benefit Effort
Donna Townsend reports the Animas community raised over 3500 dollars for little Desiree Allen at a Nov 14 carnival led by Louise Peterson. Event drew wide turnout, praised food and entertainment, with widespread thanks to donors and sponsors including B&B Clothing, Casa Frijole, DQ, Western Auto, and Valley Welding. Proceeds support Desiree Allen as Animal FHA and FFA hosted booths and raffles.

Animas Enrollment Drops as School District Seeks Funds
Animas School Board on November 11 reported enrollment down 16.5 to 569.5, costing $39,862. The district seeks $40,000 from the state finance division. if declined, the shortfall comes from the district budget. Senate Bill 106 procedures were approved 3 to 1. Next election set for February 1987 with December 16 filing. Cheese giveaway planned November 24 at St. Joseph's Church 5 to 8 PM. bring bags. Budget shifts approved and hydrant access discussed with Fire Department.

Funeral Services Held Here For Raymundo Saucedo
Raymundo C. Saucedo, lifelong Lordsburg resident, died November 10, 1986 in El Paso at age 64. Survived by wife Connie, three sons Danny Phoenix, Gilbert Del Rio, Raymond Jr Lordsburg, mother Angelina, brother Carlos, sister Rosa Rubio, eleven grandchildren. Retired after 34 years with Southern Pacific as a train clerk. WWII veteran served in Europe with the Army Medical Corps and continued service with the New Mexico National Guard.

Moonlight Madness Sale Planned by Lordsburg Merchants
More than 50 merchants and vendors prepare a Moonlight Madness Sale in Lordsburg on Friday December 5 from 6 to 10 PM with shop displays at premises and booths at the Civic Center. A tabloid edition by The Liberal, in cooperation with Marsha Hill and the Chamber of Commerce, will feature ads from most participants and a display poster listing all participants beforehand.

Deputies Sponsor Hidalgo County Holiday Food Drive
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies sponsor a holiday food drive to aid five needy families in Hidalgo County. The drive runs from November 22 to December 22 with food collected at the sheriff’s office or via any officer who will deliver it, and local businesses are urged to donate. If surplus food remains, more families will be added.

Lordsburg Council Adopts Grants for Street Repairs
In a special session the Lordsburg City Council approved a grant application to improve unimproved streets and drainage within the municipality. Funding totals include 104,947.93 from the New Mexico Department, 37,732.90 from the Community Development Block Grant, and additional city funds. The Zoning Commission will meet Friday November 21 at 6 30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

In early 1987 the state grant driven project will overlay Airport Road and streets including Cactus Drive Zinc Street Pyramid Street and Main Street. City crews, new to force account work, will perform labor reducing costs 40 to 50 percent vs full contracting.
