The Observation Post reports local vandalism concerns and a plan to install pipe bin devices across town to deter garbage tampering. Citizens discuss street light delays on Railroad Ave due to highway reconstruction and the high school junior class play tonight at the school auditorium.
The Lord chapter hosted a panel in Las Cruces with members from England India Pakistan and China to discuss dating and marriage customs. Speakers shared how social norms differ and noted restrictions on dating in several countries.
Jim Green of the New Mexico Education Assn spoke at the Lions Club at Hotel Hidalgo on school finances. He notedNM has about 190000 students and costs around 80 million annually, funded by school lands leases and various state and federal revenue streams. The talk highlighted the state tax and mineral lease contributions and the uniqueness of New Mexico’s system. The zone meeting was announced for El Charro Cafe with multiple towns represented. regular meeting follows at noon Tuesday.
The Lordsburg Credit Union held its organizational meeting at City Hall auditorium with Wayne Mahanna of the New Mexico Credit Union League presiding. Officers elected to the board were James Kinkema Frank Orona Raymundo Saucedo Ramon Sanchez and Clarence Blair. A supervisory committee was named including Mrs. Judy Fisher Alfred Altuna and Mrs. Petra Estrada. John V. Gallagher explained Cuna Mutual Insurance benefits noting no extra interest for borrowers and life protection up to 2000 dollars. The group moved to apply for Loan Protection and Life Savings Insurance with Cuna Mutual Insurance Society and the meeting adjourned.
The Rodeo Parent-Teachers Association held a replacement election on November 13 after resignations by Mrs. Ted Robb and Mrs. Ray Edington. Clarence Russell was elected president and Mrs. Wm. Ricards vice president. The December meeting was canceled and the next gathering is set for January 28 with refreshments by Mrs. Maude Russell and Mrs. Stan Harris.
The Pythian Sunshine Girls announce a bazaar on Saturday December 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at KP Hall. Booths include aprons Christmas accessories attic treasures phonograph records jewelry needlework and food. Call Mrs. Bowman or Mrs. Messecar with contributions.
Mrs. Ethel Wood, department president, asks all VFW Auxiliary members to attend the midwinter conference in Clovis on November 21 to 23. Mrs. Cora Simonton of Bataan VFW Auxiliary No 3099 supports the appeal and will attend.
Maj Richard B Laing Ret state director of Selective Service announces Dr H W Sellers as medical advisor for Hidalgo County Local Board No 12. Appointed on Gov Edwin L Mechem recommendation. board members include George P Jeffus chairman Charles C Martin Dudley R Robertson Jose Barcenas E M Fisher Jr and Earle Kerr.
The city council voted to hire James L. Smith of Deming to modernize the police department and train officers in arresting and testifying in court. Smith, with nine years in law enforcement and a former Office of Special Investigation agent, aims to make Lordsburg his permanent home.
Thieves broke into the Municipal Water Works building and stole tools and copper tubing worth several hundred dollars. Missing items include two drills a drill bit set copper tubing rolls gasoline and siphoned fuel from two pickup trucks. Break-in occurred between Friday closing and Monday morning and police report little progress.
Fifth graders at Wilson School enjoyed a PTA outing marking 165 percent of October membership goals. The group, chaperoned by Mrs. John Kirby and room mothers, traveled by bus to Knights of Pythias grounds for hot dogs, chips, eggs, cake and soft drinks, with games and marshmallows after dinner.
