Lois Howard Named 1987 Citizen of the Year in Lordsburg
Fred Ewing presented the 1987 Citizen of the Year award to Lois Howard. The nomination highlights her twenty years in Lordsburg and her help to the elderly, youth, and underprivileged. The council announces a four member city election for four year terms with districts One through Four. All precincts 1 to 3 vote at the Civic Center, absentee voting at City Hall. Last day to register is February 2, 1988 at 5 PM. Filing opens January 5, 1988 8 AM to 5 PM. The appointed mayor Clark Smith will serve the remaining term.

Forest stations sell personal use permits for five dollars per tree on Silver City Mimbres and Black Range districts and three dollars on Luna Glenwood Reserve and Quemado. Christian Home Expands Care and Shelter Services
The Christian Home on Motel Drive has operated for 11 months expanding improvements while feeding the hungry and housing travelers. In the first ten days of November the facility served 159 meals and sheltered 52 guests, with 20 beds currently available and calls for more blankets as cold weather nears. Ortiz cites a Christmas dinner plan for the less fortunate and a 24 hour prayer hotline at (505) 542-9074.
