The ASC community committee election in Hidalgo County will be conducted by mail with ballots sent to eligible voters. Ballots must be returned by November 30 1964 and will be publicly tabulated December 4 1964 at 1 30 p m in Lordsburg. City Plans Action to Enforce Street Assessments
City auditors report many residents owe curb and gutter and street paving assessments from an eight year project. Pav ing District No 1 funds exceed outstanding bonds by 2003, and delinquent properties will be notified by certified letter with possible sale if no payment. State auditor urges enforcement to retire bonds by maturity.

Loretta Gandara of Lordsburg High School was elected president of the district Future Teachers of America at a Western New Mexico University campus meeting. Virginia White of Silver City was named vice president and Alicia Rodriguez of Deming treasurer. the district includes Silver City Deming Cobre and Lordsburg high schools. Sixty five students attended as the Student Education Association aided with arrangements.

The Liberal office and all other business houses close for Thanksgiving next Thursday. Ads must be in by Tuesday noon and news by 5 p.m. State and county offices and local schools will also be closed Friday.
Community Thanksgiving Service At First Methodist Church
The annual Community-wide Thanksgiving Service will be held at the First Methodist Church on Thanksgiving Day at 10 a.m. Rever end Floyd Grant will be the speaker. Local churches will be represented, and offerings will aid the less fortunate, providing gasoline and milk for children. Over a thousand people benefited last year. Donations may be mailed to Don E. Baker or Rev. Tomlinson.

Forest Fire Hazard Warning Amid New Mexico Hunters
The U S Forest Service blames hunters for 24 fires in New Mexico through October and early November. Most fires were on the Santa Fe National Forest and extinguished while small. Southern New Mexico forests remain dry and at risk of major fires. Abandoned campfires cited. laws require full extinguishment and careful fire practices in forest areas.

FBI training ends as officers from several AZ towns attend
About 25 law enforcement officers from Safford Benson Clifton Duncan and Silver City Lordsburg and Deming participated in a two day FBI driven school in the region. Sessions covered note taking interviewing and signed statements on day one and searches and seizures on day two. Hosts were Chief C L Rogers and Sheriff Leroy McCarty with ongoing FBI cooperation planned for Lordsburg.

Rodeo Resident Nannie Price Russell Dies in Las Vegas
Funeral services for Nannie E Price Russell were held November 14 at Rodeo Baptist Church with Rev Wesley Walker officiating. She died November 9 in Las Vegas New Mexico after a long illness born January 7 1882 in Locust Grove Georgia daughter of Sam and Susan Price moved to Rodeo in 1901 married John Russell and had four children buried at Douglas City Cemetery.

Star Scouts Speak at Lions Club Meeting
Two Star Boy Scouts spoke at the weekly Lions Club gathering in Valencia. Steve McGhee explained the Order of the Arrow and Charles McGhee discussed the founding and growth of the Boy Scout movement. The brothers, sons of Donald and Mrs. McGhee, pursue merit badges for Life Scout rank. The club voted financial support for the New Mexico Lions Eye Bank to encourage eye donation after death to help others regain sight.

Mrs Arthur Shaw Dies In Albuquerque
Mrs Arthur Shaw died Sunday at Bataan Memorial Hospital Albuquerque after an extended illness. The Shaws lived in Lordsburg for years where Rev Shaw served as pastor of First Methodist Church. Funeral was held Wednesday at Trinity Methodist Church Clovis NM. Survivors include husband a daughter Nancy Landers of Yuma son David Shaw Jr of Monhans Texas several grandchildren and other relatives.
