Fatal Crash Kills Ohio Man Near Roadforks

Nick Markota of Struthers Ohio died Saturday night after his 1948 Plymouth Coupe left the road east of Roadforks Checking Station, struck a mesquite tree, and he was taken to Hidalgo County hospital. Authorities say he likely took the wrong fork and traveled at high speed while attempting a turn. The Lordsburg F H A district meeting followed, with about 150 girls from Lordsburg Hatch Las Cruces Deming attending the District III event hosted by Lordsburg.

Heavy Fine For Failure To Register in Selective Service

State Selective Service head quarters warns that failure to register carries up to two years in prison or a $10 000 fine. Men must register within five days after 18th birthday or face similar penalties. Inquiries note the local office at 104 E 3rd St Lordsburg beside Knights of Pythias hall.

The regular session of District Court opened Monday with Judge R F Arledge presiding in place of Judge A W Marshall who is bedridden after Armistice Day horse accident. Only routine divorce cases were heard. Barney Alexander knife slaying case continued to later date for Judge Marshall to hear.

Delegates Attend P T A Meeting in Silver City

The District Meeting of the P T A was held Wednesday November 17 at S T C Silver City with talks by Mrs M Scheid State President Mrs J P Brandenburg Miss Hazel Young Rev Harold E Johnson and Hon Vearle Payne. Lordsburg delegates and a tea followed. The next meeting is invited to Lordsburg for fall 1949.

Burglars Break Into Allen's Grocery on South Main

Burglars entered Allen Grocery by a rear window Monday night and stole under $2 in pennies and small items like cookies. Authorities suspect local youths and have fingerprints but no arrests yet, with investigation ongoing.

Musical Program At Woman's Club Delights Members

The Woman's club met Monday afternoon November 15 with President Mrs J A Foster presiding. A strong attendance heard a fine program by Rog er Wells Lordsburg high school band director and Mrs Claude Fullers pupils. Performances included piano solos violin solo trombone solo and piano duet with students Mary Lou Brown Chavez Estrada and Bowman.
