Mining visitors tour Deming fluorspar mill project

William Johnson of Kingston and Deming visited Lordsburg on Friday. He formerly worked in Mexican mining and now runs fluorspar mining and milling near Deming with associates. Johnson inspected the new Lordsburg mill operated by Mr. Stuler and discussed the Knever mill project with L K Diffenderfer.

Funeral for Mrs George W Bailey Held in Lordsburg

The funeral for the late Mrs George W Bailey took place Friday at Heather mortuary in Lordsburg. Rev M C Moore delivered a comforting sermon praising motherhood and a devoted life. A male quartet provided music and pallbearers included George Tyra and others. The burial was in Mountain View cemetery with many family members present.

Streamlined Locomotives Pass Through Lordsburg

Three of the new streamlined locomotives passed through Lordsburg on Friday en route to the Pacific coast for passenger service on the Southern Pacific Dawn to Dusk Daylight between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The 14 locomotives cost 1 960 000 in total, were built by American Locomotive Company at Schenectady and assembled in El Paso before entering service.

Pioneer Cattleman W W Wilkie Dies On Armistice Day

El Paso cattleman W W Wilkie aged 60 dies suddenly on Armistice Day after returning from an Arizona ranch. Funeral held in El Paso with daughter Mrs Harry Day and family in attendance. Wilkie, a renowned Southwest cattleman with extensive holdings, had sought his wife’s care during illness when he fell ill en route to a clinic. His mother is still living.

Rancher Bound Over To District Court In Grant County

A. P. Rosser of Separ was bound over to the spring term of the District Court in Grant county at Bilver City after a preliminary hearing. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon for striking Lee Baker of Separ with the barrel of a gun over disputed land boundaries. Rosser was released on a $1,000 bond pending district court action.

Banner Mine Names New Office Man

Robert Dewey, formerly of Texas and East Lake City, is the new office man at the Banner mine. An expert Topographer, he previously worked with the U. S. Geological Survey and has moved his family to Lordsburg, residing in a Leonard apartment on South Main.

Two Quick Captures Highlight Lordsburg Sheriff's Work

Hidalgo county officers nabbed a stranger named Glen Turk for attempting to break into Lordsburg high school after being alerted to the plot. Turk faced a preliminary hearing and was bound over to the April district court term, with bond set at 1000 dollars. In a separate late Wednesday incident, D A Dunn robbed west of Lordsburg after a bar encounter, and Ray Rhodes and Nellie Rhodes were jailed or released on recognizance following hearings. The sheriff praised the swift resolution of both cases.
