Social Security Law Amended Expands Benefits for Disabled Workers
E B Freeman of the El Paso Social Security Office reports about 125000 disabled workers and their families now qualify for benefits after a September amendment. The prior rule required ages 50 to 65. under 50 workers could freeze earnings but not receive benefits. The new law sets a single age limit of under 65.

Lee Named Hidalgo County Chairman for Lubbock Christian College Campaign
M R Lee of Lordsburg was named Hidalgo County chairman of the Lubbock Christian College 1960 Financial Campaign. The drive seeks 2 077 000 with a Hidalgo share of 1 000. The college now operates as a liberal arts junior college with about 380 students and total campus assets of 2 000 000 including a 60 room dormitory and a large field house under construction. The goals include financing two permanent buildings, completing the field house and dormitory, establishing a three year 300 000 operating fund and a 120 000 student work program with scholarships, plus purchasing 100 additional acres for campus expansion.

Jal Panthers Clinch Nacional Crown In Blowout
The Jal Panthers defeated the Lordsburg Mavericks 46 to 0 to win the Re monal Class B championship. Sparling Kohlman Guilliams and Co. powered the offense as Jal opened with a kickoff TD and never relinquished control. Local fans traveled by car and chartered airplane from Silver City to Jal for the decisive game.

Darnell Injured in Deer Hunting Accident in Mountains
Fred Darnell suffered a serious leg wound when a hunter's rifle bullet ricocheted off a rock on a hillside west of Rodeo. He bled heavily before reaching Douglas Hospital where a transfusion and emergency care were given. Joe Rouse helped carry him down the mountain. condition improved by Tuesday evening.
