The Lions club announced at a Tuesday noon meeting they will send 32 members of the football traveling squad to the Sun Bowl in El Paso on January 2. Members are asked to donate 3.00 each to cover travel costs, with H. H. Bryant named as refund chair.
Most Worshipful John W. Hall grand master of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of New Mexico visited Lordsburg Lodge No. 30 in Lordsburg for a special Monday meeting. Worshipful Master Rex Kipp led the session and welcomed Mr Hall who delivered an inspiring address before refreshments.
The central school intermediate grades stage the pageant Through the Crystal Ball on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the gymnasium. A Gypsy crystal gazer animates living pictures telling the nation’s story while a chorus of over 100 children performs familiar patriotic songs. Parents and friends are invited to attend.
El Paso Sun Carnival invites local artists to enter works in the fine arts exhibition during the festival from December 28 to January 2. Interested artists should contact the local chamber office or the Sun Carnival Fine Arts Committee at 105 Fifth Ave.
The Lordsburg Liberal notes a typo in the Spencer and Son ad from the Nov 4 issue. It misstates a prize as a $25.00 buck shot for a Hidalgo County resident. it should read a $25.90 Certificate for appliance purchases, offering ladies a chance at the prize.
The piece traces Lordsburg growth from a desert settlement to a city of about 6000, driven by electric power. It recalls kerosene lighting in adobe homes and the railroad station, then notes modern neon illumination seen from miles away as the town expands. The article mentions a push for better lighting and electricity driven improvements including ice.

King Perry and his versatile orchestra visit the Railroad club on Friday evening, November 25. The group is well known for recordings and radio work and should draw music lovers in Lordsburg for an enjoyable night.
The September 1949 climatological data show a high of 98 degrees on September 1 and a low of 52 on September 26. The September average is 75.4 degrees with 88.7 high and 62 low. eight rainfall days totaling 1.87 inches, peak 0.98 inches on September 6 and 0.01 inches on Sept 16 and 30.

The road show The Devil on Wheels played at Coronado theater Monday afternoon with excellent attendance. A parade led by city police preceded the show, followed by the high school band, a fire engine, and a red convertible devil. The American Legion and auxiliary thank area businesses and individuals for aid.
A 5 p.m. collision on November 16 at Animas and 10th streets involved a 1949 Studebaker driven by Tharse T. Staley of El Paso Texas and a 1941 International truck driven by Don Still of this city. Staley had minor head and knee injuries while Still was uninjured. Estimated damages exceed 500 dollars for the car and over 200 dollars for the truck.
Mrs. B R Myers addressed the Bus iness and Professional Women's club on United Nations affairs with emphasis on its functions and achievements. She noted UN work in agriculture health refugees and child welfare and cited Indonesia's independence issue as a current hotspot.
The Department of Game and Fish announced a special elk season from noon December 15 to December 20 in the Gila National Forest area northwest of Mimbres New Mexico. Elliott Barker said 65 permits will be issued after a public drawing for about 360 sections. Bull cow or calf may be taken. Applications due by 10:00 am November 28 with 15 dollar resident or 50 dollar non resident fee. Hunters must report to the Mimbres checking station for area instructions.
Members of the American Legion auxiliary sell Marion Kay pure vanilla to raise funds for a 48 cup coffee urn for the Legion hall. Call Mrs. Harold Bishop at 15 W to place orders.
