Plan for temporary Hidalgo medical clinic proposed by Silver City doctors

Hidalgo County Commissioners hear a six month trial proposal to run a local clinic with a physician's assistant or nurse practitioner and weekly doctor visits to ease the lack of permanent medical services. Doctors would not fund the venture. county funding is expected.

Navy Plane Lands at Lordsburg Airport with Crew

A Navy US-2 plane landed at Lordsburg Municipal Airport shortly before noon on Saturday November 10 due to propeller governor trouble. The seven man crew led by Lt Michael Hill was en route from El Paso to Lemoor Naval Air Station to perform repairs, with co pilot Lt Dave Traux and crew members ADAN Steven Raposo ADI Jerry Melone AMSAN Mike Harting AT 3 Jim Tudry AEAN Mike Sullivan and Pilot Hill. Lt Hill, a former High Sierras Search and Rescue helicopter pilot, has 49 actual rescues and 42 lives saved with his station crew. Hill is the son of Mr and Mrs Allen Hill of Lordsburg.

Hidalgo County Democratic Central Committee elects Lordsburg City Councillor Maura Rico as chairman for the coming year at a county courthouse meeting. Grant Nelson wins vice chair, Raymundo Saucedo named secretary treasurer. they will represent the panel at the state convention in Santa Rosa on Nov 14. precinct chairs for Hidalgo County named Oct 31 include Saucedo, Ramirez, Rodriguez, Samoza, Croom, and Farran.

Christmas Tree Permits Available Locally In Forests

Gila and Lincoln National Forests offer a combined sale by mail and over the counter program for Christmas tree permits. Each permit costs one dollar per tree with one tree per household. Applications by mail were available November 10 at Forest Service offices and Deming, Lordsburg, and other post offices, with in person sales starting November 24 at most Gila sites except Silver City District and Black Range South near Kingston.

New Mexico Names 12 Cotton Delegates for 1980

Animal Man announced that twelve cotton industry leaders will serve as New Mexico delegates to the National Cotton Council for 1980. Delegates include producers W. E. Bonham Roswell Hal Keeler Deming Ralph Hackey and Jerry Calvani, plus ginners David Herrera Mesquite H Ellis Parks Roswell J H Baxter Hagerman and James R Craft Malaga. Alternate producer delegates are Draper Brantley Carlsbad Jack Langenegger Hagerman Archie Payne Animas and Charles Tharp Las Cruces. Local land developer sues Hidalgo County over paving Glen Acres roads

James D. McCutchan and Glen Acres Corporation sue in Sixth District Court seeking an order to pave Lee Trevino Drive and Ben Hogan Road or award about 75000 dollars in damages. Plaintiffs claim the county accepted the roads as county roads and later failed to maintain them under a 1978 cooperative paving plan. The suit names several Glen Acres property owners and notes over 90 residents may be affected. Hidalgo County Commissioners also filed a separate affidavit disqualifying Judge Roy Hughes from hearing the case.

Border Patrol arrests 12 in motorhome near Lordsburg

Border Patrol officers stopped a motorhome near Lordsburg and detained 12 aliens. Eight were from Guatemala, two from Mexico, one from El Salvador, and one from Honduras. The driver, an El Salvadoran, charged each passenger 400 to 600 dollars for passage to Los Angeles. Officials say the case is one of 49 arrests in the past month.

The Motor Vehicle Division released details on the 1980 vehicle re registration program. Mailouts began in November with special plates included. A second renewal mailing starts the week of November 12. By February 15 by mail helps avoid lines. final deadline is March 2 at all field offices. Las Cruces Judge Selected to Hear Lordsburg Case

District Court Judge Garnett Burks will preside over a suit filed by Municipal Judge Jesus Estrada against the City of Lordsburg. The Sixth District DA’s office represents Estrada and the State Labor Commission claiming about 1300 in back pay and a future raise. City attorneys have filed 17 defenses alleging the raise ordinance may be illegal.
