Band parents sponsor school concert Saturday night

Band parents are sponsoring a concert at the school gym this Saturday November 24 at 8 p.m. Patrons are asked to support the event to help make it a success.

Thanksgiving is Thursday November 22 and the TV will close with all other houses. Adela Estrada left Sunday to attend the funeral of her aunt Maria Tarin in El Paso. She stayed with Vie Tarin and arrived around 4 Tuesday night.

Mrs. Margaret Powell has been named chairman of the 50th annual Christmas Seal Sale of the Hidalgo County Tuberculosis Association now in progress. She urges purchases of seals to support year round TB fight and asks residents in Lordsburg to send checks.

Current School Fund Shows Increase in New Mexico

The current school fund for the present school year totals 11 296 260 dollars, up 2 636 236 from a year ago, with most of the rise from bonuses on oil and leases on state lands. The fund becomes available for distribution each July and sales tax gains 540 000 in the first quarter, giving schools more than three million dollars more than last year.

Negro Woman Dies En Route To Texas West Of Lordsburg

Mrs. May Dell Land a 40 year old Negro woman died Tuesday night while traveling home to Alta Texas with her husband R S Land. Dennis Henry drove to Lordsburg police to report the death and then to Heather Mortuary. Mrs Land had undergone a major operation in Phoenix and died about ten miles west of Lordsburg. She leaves a father Emery Parker and five more children in Alta Texas.

Nick Arambula Strays Into Wooded Ordeal. Safe Return

Nick Arambula spent a day and a half lost after hunting with friends near Tyrone. He wandered about eight miles, slept in a hollow tree, and drank cactus liquid before being found near Silver City by James Barka and others. He was later returned home by state police after a lengthy search.

Community groups announce events in November listings

Band parents meet November 19 followed by Lordsburg Woman's Club Odd Fellows and Rainbow Girls gatherings on November 19 and 20. Pythian Sisters K of P Rebekah Lodge and Robert Swan Post 30 events run November 20 and 21. Junior Woman's Club closes the sequence on November 22.

Powder Puff Classic Set For November 26

Lordsburg High School junior and senior girls face off in a powder puff football game Monday November 26 at 7 30 p m at the stadium. Senior coaches John Ruiz Lloyd Payne and Junior Morales run the game with head cheerleader Bucky Powell and assistants Darry Deaton Nievez Fausto. Junior officials were unavailable. Gate proceeds to be split between the two classes.

The Business and Professional Women's Club met Thursday at City Hall with civili defense on the program. Sgt. A F Carter of the Air Force spoke and presented the film The Dangerous Mile. Refreshments followed the brief business session.

Leo Cohen named president of Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce with Harrer Heather as vice president. Five directors elected Frank Bowman Heather Jack Morgan Wesley Freeburg Richard Dockum to three year terms, Dockum completing Godfrey's term after a tie. Margaret Codding named manager for sixth year starting November 1.

Band Parents Club Runs Lions Sponsored Broom Sale

The Lordsburg Lions Club, which sponsored the broom sale for two years, funds are redirected to the Band Parents Club this year. The Lions donated 300 dollars to the high school athletic association for football insurance and arranged the sale with Alamogordo brooms, with all proceeds going to the Band Parents Club. The event is set for Saturday December f. The Band Parents Club supports the band by funding uniforms instruments and music as the school has limited funds.
