Public Roads Chief Tours Lordsburg and Western States

Thomas Harris MacDonald head of the U S Bureau of Public Roads and aides visited Lordsburg meeting with Hidalgo county Chamber of Commerce. He urged maintenance and higher standards for roads while comparing prosperity across the international line in El Paso and Juarez during a Western States tour. The party traveled to Douglas via the Bankhead Highway.

Venus Group dump yields good values in silver mining

J L Welle, mineral surveyor for the Venus Group, reports 16 cars of silver ore shipped to El Paseo smelter since 1882. High grade ore has sold as high as 1846002 per ton, with 40 to 50 thousand ounces of silver in tailings. Main shaft 400 ft deep. mining to resume in December as dumps and low grade ore await milling.

A Tuesday fire caused excitement and some students wished for warmth at High School.
