Mavericks Close Season With Win Over Hatch Bears

The Lordsburg Mavericks defeated Hatch 23 19 to close the season in a hard fought football finale. Senior stars like Manuel Ramirez and Demetrio Nava ended their high school careers, while Porky Martinez shone with a 22 yard field goal and a 60 yard TD pass to Ramirez. The team finished 4 6 and coach Dewey Bohling guided a strong finish.

Lordsburg Hosts District Woman's Club Convention

Lordsburg hosts the Fourth District Federation of Junior and Senior Woman's Clubs convention on November 6-7 with district president Mrs. Asbury Glover presiding. Highlights include the Junior Woman's Club luncheon, Full Moon Banquet, gun safety talk by Cur Berghofer, and awards for arts and crafts. The group plans to meet in Albuquerque for 1969.

Nursing Home Approved for Lordsburg Construction Planned

At a Roswell meeting on November 9 Retirement Ranches Inc approved Standard Mortgage Investment Co to complete a package program for a Lordsburg nursing home on 25 acres of HADECO land. Preliminary plans due in 60 to 90 days with construction to start soon. Total cost about 730000 with 630000 building and 100000 equipment funded by Retirement Ranches. A fundraising campaign chaired by Mrs Betty Lazar will help cover early operating deficits with funds escrowed until completion.

Mavericks Dominate District 3-B All-District Football Team

District 3-B coaches met at Lag Cruces on Tuesday night to select the district all star football squad. Lordsburg players earned multiple first team spots on defense including Charles Winstow and Paul Speer. Speer also made the offense along with Gilbert Ramirez and Sandy Fisher, the latter the coaches unanimous pick at center.

Frontier Reveals Silver City Schedule Change

Frontier Airlines announces a new Flight 618 replacing Flight 584 effective December 1. Flight 618 departs Silver City at 1 48 p m and lands Albuquerque at 2 34 p m. Flight 584 now leaves at 3 03 p m and arrives at 3 46 p m using Convair 600 turbo prop equipment.

Lordsburg H S Band Heads to Silver City Parade

Lordsburg High School band joins eight junior and senior bands plus the Western New Mexico University marching band in Silver City for a 10 30 a m homecoming parade. Floats may be entered. parade route runs from the Fine Arts Center to Gough Park. The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event, with halftime at the football game.
