Reed Named Playas General Smelter Foreman

Robert A. Reed is named general smelter foreman at Phelps Dodge Hidalgo Smelter in Playas. The announcement by smelter superintendent W. J. Mitchell notes Reed is Morenci, Arizona native, holds a Brigham Young University BS in design engineering, joined Phelps Dodge in 1974, served as Hidalgo plant engineer from 1984, previously worked for F. C. Torkelson Engineering in Salt Lake City, and sits on several professional and civic boards while residing in Playas.

New Mexico will receive 4 million dollars to back anti-drug initiatives, with Congress allocating 16 million for state and local enforcement in the Southwest Border area. County Approves Phelps Dodge Bonds

At the November 10 1992 Hidalgo County Commission meeting a joint public notice and hearing with the City of Lordsburg led to Resolution 92 34 to fund part of the Pollution Control Revenue bonds for Phelps Dodge. County Manager Tom Anderson reported no opposition as Commissioners Chaires and Burgess approved. Representing Phelps Dodge were Pete Chen Robert Darnell and Charlie Brown.
