At Tombstone area prospects high as Fraser of Soda Springs reports a gas and oil strike 4495 feet deep after 34 days of drilling. He expects the site to yield one of the country’s largest pools with up to 10000 acres of suitable oil ground nearby.
Manuel Sandoval a 15 year old from Rodeo south of Lordsburg was accidentally shot in the stomach with a .22 rifle while rabbit hunting Sunday afternoon. He was treated at Hidalgo County Hospital and Watts Clinic in Silver City where doctors said the bullet passed through his intestines liver and a kidney. He was transported by Heather Mortuary ambulance and is listed in not critical condition. Sandoval had just graduated eighth grade at Rodeo School.
School will dismiss on Monday November 16 according to Mr Freeburg the announcement this week.
The weekly contest spotlights Yolanda Talavera of Colorado Springs as the winner after 19 clues matched. 137 slips had the right personality, while 30 were wrong. The Gulf Service Center hosts the box this week and winners collect at the Liberal office Friday.
Linda Rae Hill daughter of Mr and Mrs Fielder Hill was installed as Royal Princess of Little Pyramid Council of Sunshine Girls on Thursday November 5. Installing officers were Sharon Bowman Judy McAlister Sally Baker Jeaneane Badgett and Fiona Gay. Linda's counselors are Mrs Glen Dorsett Mrs John A Johnson Sr Mrs Warren White Mrs Exoma Culp and Jesse Austin. Miss McAlister and Miss Badgett served refreshments at the reception. Linda's colors are red and white and her flower is the carnation.
The Mavericks crushed Willcox 39 to 6 to finish with five wins and three losses. Ray Rodriguez and Johnny Mack Elms led scoring with two TDs apiece and converting plays, while Rudy Corral added a TD. Jal Panthers visit Friday for the Southern Regional championship with key players sidelined by injuries.
Primary results name nine candidates for Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce executive board. Four three year terms will be filled from the list of nine nominees. Ballots go to chamber members and must be returned by November 17. Chamber plans Christmas decor on Railroad Avenue per manager Marguerite Codding.
The period November 1 to November 20 is set for mailing Christmas parcels to Armed Forces Overseas personnel families and authorized U S civilians. Parcels may be sent by surface mail November 1 to 20 and by air mail December 1 to December.
The first annual National Finals Roping brings 15 top steer ropers and 15 speed teams to Clayton on Friday and Saturday with $14,500 in prize money. A steer roper could win $351 for the fastest round. team ropers share $1,137 plus day money. Arizona’s Joe Glenn leads Rodeo Cowboys Assn. team roping, with New Mexico contestants Sonny Davis Fred Darnell and Lewis Garcia among the field.
