Engineer Hubert Jeffus maps Hidalgo county roads

Engineer Hubert Jeffus surveyed Hidalgo county roads last spring and now works from Gallup on a statewide project to map farm to market highways. His work will be shared with Washington and added to New Mexico road history. He plans another two weeks in Gallup before returning to the area. Mrs Ug and child stay in Gallup where she teaches Indian phonetics. The boy is ten and a half months old and aims to follow his father’s example. Hidalgo county has about one thousand miles of highway. Robert Ellison celebrated his 8th birthday with a theatre party including eight friends and refreshments afterward.

Lions Club Meeting Highlights Local Highway Talks and Scout Support

Lordsburg Lions Club heard A H Garner discuss U S 60 and Highway connections to Mexico as tourism grows. S S Lewis joined as a member and Fred Roberts urged four to five night scout training with local sponsors backing by Lion Bryan Hall and Pastor Brimberry. A state basketball tournament in Lordsburg drew fundraising for visiting teams marking a first for the state.

Seven Pound Goose Wins Hunt Trophy

Nat Gammon and companions Nat Gammon Tom Clayton and Mrs Downey bagged a seven pound goose during a Tuesday hunt. The bird swam in the Clayton tank before Nat shot it as it tried to fly away. Tom Clayton then roped and brought the goose to shore. They also collected quail and two ducks alongside the big goose.

City Officers Catch Two Red Handed In Store

City Marshal Percy Brown and night Marshal Billet nabbed two youths, Peter Cale seventeen and Alfred Stein nineteen, red handed at Lordsburg Mercantile Drug Store. They faced trespass and theft charges as district attorney reviews the case for arraignment.

Auto Crash Near Duncan Injures Woman Police Cites Rescuers

Returning from Miami Tuesday Joe Pagberg and L L Travis witnessed a wreck a short distance from Duncan. An eastern couple in a car turned over and trapped occupants were removed for medical aid. The woman suffered serious injuries while the man escaped with minor harm. The names of the other occupants were not learned.
