Mavericks Outplay Hatch Bears in Lordsburg finale

In Parents Night action Lordsburg Mavericks defeated Hatch Bears 18 to 0. Seniors honored include Mora Rafferty Been Esquivel Ornelas Reza Huizar Madero Alvarez Mahan Johnson. Scoring came from a Gabriel Guerrero punt return and a Raymond Hernandez end sweep with a late Gabe score. Lordsburg finished 5-5 and thanks were extended to coaches Reese and Samson.

Latham Addresses FHA Meeting On Homemaker Roles

Herbert Saucedo Elected Chamber of Commerce President

Herbert V. Saucedo was elected president of the Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce at a board meeting Monday night. Saucedo, manager of Saucedo's Super Market, has years on the chamber board and as vice president, succeeding Boyd Harper. New officers include Mel Phillips first vice president Joel Bivens second vice president and Glenn Dorsett secretary manager. New directors are Robert Schlosser Gene Burns and Rev Dick Ross. Officers take office at year start.

Elks District Deputy Visits Lodge 1813

William B. Davis, district deputy grand exalted ruler for New Mexico South, visited B P O F Lodge No. 1813 on Wednesday October 27. After dinner an initiation added William Sheaffer Robert Montes and Andres Yanez. Davis spoke on Elks goals for the year focusing on drug abuse violence and youth leadership.

ASC Election Ballots In Mail

Ballots are mailed to farmers and ranchers to elect community committee men for ASC programs. Nominees are listed for Lordsburg Virden and Virden communities with a Dec 1 return deadline and a Dec 6 public tabulation at the Hidalgo County ASCS office. Each voter selects up to three candidates or writes in a name. top four become officers or alternates and the committee elects the county ASC.

State President To Visit Local Elks

Jack Bollinger of Tucumcari president of the New Mexico State Elks Association will visit the local B P O E Lodge No 1813 Saturday November 13. The wives of lodge officers have organized a dinner in his honor. Dinner will be served at 8 p m and all Elks members and their wives are invited.

Lordsburg Nursing Home Ground Breaking Planned

Plans advance for ceremonial ground breaking of the Lordsburg Nursing Home this month. HADECO President Gilbert Buyens said a date will be set to fit Governor Bruce King’s schedule. Havens reported final arrangements secured and construction expected to last nine months. Four directors were reelected to two year terms: Harold Bishop, R. S. Dockum, Claude Speer, and a First National Bank of Lordsburg representative. holdovers are Ravens, Dick Rice, and Russell Smith.

Lordsburg Business Conditions Stable, Says Chamber Leader

The Lordsburg economy remains stable over recent months according to New Mexico Business. Glenn Dorsett, manager of the Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce, cites $4 million in Interstate 10 construction and about $3 million more planned next year as indicators while bypass-related building will add 10 to 12 blocks south. Building permits for five months this year exceed 1970 figures.

Animas FFA Attends Leadership Training Session

Five Animas chapter FFA officers Johnny Hatch Vince Robinson James Bagwell Eddie Bagwell and Luis Dominguez attended a Leadership Training Session at Las Cruces High School on August 28 1971. Hosted by newly elected state FFA officers the session trained District VI officers. Attendees reported the event a success and said each member gained valuable information.
