In Hidalgo County the contested race saw Republican Joe Burgess defeat Democrat Joe Croom 1069 to 835. Democrat John A. Smith beat Republican Bill Cobb 1054 to 811. DA race went to Republican John Hand 925 over Democrat Mike Lewis 916. Bush over Dukakis 1100 to 901. Senator Bingaman won 1274 to 647. Ralph Craig Services Held in California Football Coach Remembered
Ralph Craig, former Lordsburg resident and high school coach, died October 29 in West Covina after a long cancer illness. A Western New Mexico University and Teachers College athlete, he had his jersey number 10 retired and was inducted into his alma mater’s Hall of Fame. He served in the Korean War earning a Purple Heart, coached at New Mexico Military Institute, Lordsburg, Mt. San Antonio College, and was known as the Father of Physical Education at MSAC. He is survived by his wife Bettie, two brothers, a daughter, and a grandson.

Food Drive Planned for Christian Home in Lordsburg
A Thanksgiving Food Drive will be held in Lordsburg on Saturday November 19 to benefit the Christian Home. Postal workers will collect donations left in or beside mailboxes, per postmaster Bobby Borrego. Donations may also be delivered directly to the Christian Home.
