All city, county, and state offices will close on November 11 for Veterans Day. The First State Bank and Lordsburg area schools will also close for the holiday.
The Hidalgo substation near Lordsburg NM completes phase one of a 345 kV line addition joint owned by Community Public Service El Paso Electric and PNM. When finished, two 345 kV lines will run west and east boosting southwestern New Mexico capacity and potentially lowering fuel adjustments on local bills.
National Education Week runs November 13 to 19 in Lordsburg with open houses for all schools. On Tuesday November 15 the high school hosts a 7:00 p.m. meeting in the library for parents and community members, with NHS guides and refreshments by Home Economics under Mrs. Blanche Hitson. Middle School hosts November 16, Elementary schools November 17, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. NHS hosts and serves refreshments. NHS sponsor is Alan Haines with a list of student officers and members including George Basabilvazo and Mike Gandara among many others.
Gov. Apodaca appoints J. C. Robinson of Silver City as district attorney to replace E. C. Serna who was killed in an Oct. 14 car accident. Asa Kelly resigns immediately amid Rob ins appointment. Patricio Sanchez remains the sole assistant. The district covers Grant, Luna, and Hidalgo Counties.
Hidalgo County commissioners approve a $1 102 20 bid for a TV translator near Stiens Pass to aid Playas Animas and Cotton City reception. They divert 30 000 leftover funds to other translator sites and appoint three new hospital board members Burk Stiles Neil DeVilbiss and Henry Alvarez to meet November 23.
Lordsburg Hidalgo County Board of Directors fills seats vacated by Gandara and Reay at a November meeting. Warren Garrison proposes barbed wire 1881 novelty samples for sale via the Chamber while Steins reconstruction is discussed. The board tables museum-site talks, approves a $1200 annual budget for the Lordsburg Liberal, and authorizes a $25 memorial gift to the local library.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Rudy Lara released the October 1977 monthly report detailing 12 939 miles driven on patrol. The department served 68 warrants and summons, made one trip to Springer and one trip to Santa Fe.
