Freeburg 21 a Burns Okla A and M College student fatally burned during a water fight in a bathroom. A classmate's bucket of turpentine ignited by a gas heater caused severe burns. another student suffered non critical injuries. Parents and college officials notified as investigation continues.

Lawman Bradford Praised for Courteous, Firm Police Service
J R Bradford a state policeman and Lordsburg Silver City Portales native has earned respect from townspeople for a courteous firm approach. Born in Stillwater Texas he came to Portales in 1932 and began policing as deputy sheriff in 1934 35 36. He joined the New Mexico State Police in October 1937 with later transfers and a 1941 return to Lordsburg. He is married to Margaret Sims with two children Betty 13 and Johnny III three.

PTA Launches New Fund Raising Project
At the regular PTA meeting in the high school Monday evening, members voted to sell pure vanilla to raise funds for a coffee urn for the cafeteria and to provide lunchroom workers with coverall aprons. Mrs. H. H. Bryant presided and Margaret Scheid, a national PTA worker, gave a talk on the Present Teachers Association.

New Water Main Ties Into Old System
Water is shut off in some residential sections to connect a new main to the city system. The main part of town remains unaffected. Water was turned off again Thursday afternoon to complete the connection work. Superintendent Sam Gass apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks residents for their patience.

A Tri State ceremonial of the Dramatic Order of Knights of Khorassan will be held in Lordsburg on Saturday November 26 with lodges from New Mexico and Arizona. Hidalgo District Scout Committee held a Court of Honor on Thursday November 3rd at 7 30 p m in Lordsburg City Hall. Dick Traylor District Advancement Chairman presided as 15 local Scouts received advancement. Ben Talavera assistant scoutmaster Troop 121 St Josephs Catholic Church led opening ceremony. State Patrolman John Bradford spoke on safe handling of firearms and care during big game season. A five point program was presented to the boys.

The Lordsburg Lions Club marked its 19th anniversary with a 6:30 p.m. turkey dinner at the Westerner cafe and a ladies night. Special guests included E. M. Fisher Sr., a charter member, and Mrs. Thelma Ross led a group sing. President Dick Rice summarized club and Lions International history, noting Lions existence since 1917 and clubs in 26 countries. A new March of Dimes sponsorship was approved with Jack Morgan named general chairman.

Chief Lalo Sanchez reports the Halloween of year was the quietest since he joined the force. No property damage occurred and only minimal vandalism was recorded. The PTA carnival on Halloween night kept the town's youths engaged and peaceful.
