Uimas Valley Ladies Sponsor Community Building
The Uimas Valley Ladies sponsor a community building project led by Mrs Esther as president and Mrs Edna as vice president. The group moved a U.S. Army barracks to a one acre site near the Animas highway. Men help with repairs. now plastering and roofing progress. The building will host bureau meetings So Sew and other city events funded by small memberships. The effort seeks broad community support.

Highway Wreck Kills Seven on Route 80 near Deming
A two car crash on Highway 80 about 28 miles east of town Sunday at 7 30 am killed seven people and injured four others. Victims include Bob Blankenstein and family from La Mesa California and Virgil Brown and family from Clovis New Mexico. Post Office Building Being Remodeled
The post office on Railroad Avenue, owned by Chase Mult, is being enlarged with a 21 ft 6 in deep addition to create a work room for staff and toilet facilities. A right side hallway leads to a new parking entrance on 2nd Street, patrons can enter from 2nd Street to ease Railroad Avenue congestion. Front remodeling includes masters office, relocated windows, 135 patron boxes, repainting, fluorescent lighting and new heating system.
