The Church of Christ in Douglas continues the evangelistic meeting led by Richard C. Mills for one more week. Attendance has been strong and Mrs. Catherine Mills, in charge of music, conducts a Booster Chorus for intermediates and juniors. Services run 7:30 pm nightly except Saturday with 11 am Sunday worship and a lineup of topics including The Great Restoration and The Alternatives of Jesus.
All county and city offices will be closed on Armistice Day November 12, following the usual custom since November 11 falls on Sunday. Public and private business will be suspended and residents urged to conduct Saturday trading to cover Monday. Dr. Gordon Singleton of Mary Hardin Baylor College visited Lordsburg en route home from the Arizona State Baptist convention and spoke at the high school about Honor, Scholarship and Service.
R Cathern manager says more industrial and professional workers seek jobs at the Silver City office. A representative will visit Lordsburg and Hidalgo county on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month from 10 a m to 12 noon at Hotel Hidalgo to assist returning veterans and place workers with employers.
The Methodist Church will observe Armistice Day on Sunday November 11 with an appropriate program and a sermon on Redemptive Processes and Human Sacrifice. Dr L L Evans will hold First Quarterly Conference at 3 30 if he attends in the morning he will preach. Church School meets at 10 a m. Pastor Franklin R Poage invites attendance.
Lordsburg Chapter No 21 O E S announces a pot duck supper at 6 PM next Tuesday in the hall. It coincides with the regular chapter meeting. The November 10 cake sale is postponed with a new date to be announced Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Emma Scofield hosted the Monday Night Bridge Club with new member Jane Redford joining. Other members present included Mrs. Hazel Chase Miss Helen Chase Miss Bess Johnston Mrs. Bertha Koff Mrs. Jane Stiles Mrs. Jane Traylor and Mrs. Lula White. Guests were Mrs. Louise Bryant and Mrs. Goldie Little.
A large group of Lordsburg residents and admirers including Mayor E. W. Ward attended the funeral of John C. O Leary who died at an El Paso hospital. The services were held in Deming on Thursday afternoon with Silver City attendees among the mourners.
Last Sunday Pi Chapter held a tea at the home of Mrs. Emma Scofield to honor preferential candidates Mrs. Mary Eddy Miss Jeannette Williams and Mrs. June Redford. Initiation occurred at the Hidalgo Hotel Tuesday after a banquet with Ritual of Jewel awarded to Mrs. Omelka and new membership for the three candidates.
Mr and Mrs James T Wells of Cananea Mexico spent the last weekend with Mr Wells mother Mrs Olivia Wells in a family gathering.
Dr. Thomas C. Donnelly of the University of New Mexico warns that the G I Bill of Rights will fail veterans if home prices stay unstable. He cites rising costs, a postwar housing surge, and the need for government action to cap inflation and stabilize values to enable veterans to buy homes.
The District OPA Office reports two Santa Fe cases settled out of court. Howard Rich says both deals pay double the alleged overcharges. Ingram Brothers of Clovis and Carl Hamlin Gallup, both used car dealers, faced ceilings price violations, with settlements of 750 dollars and 210 dollars respectively.
Flynn O'Malley, District OPA Compliance Officer, assumed the role of District OPA Rent Executive on November 1. He succeeds Howard Wegs, who resigned to move to Seattle and join a brother in real estate and construction.
Louis W. McClurken district OPA price specialist warned on KOB last Friday that a lumber shortage requires strict price control. He said paying 10 to 15 percent above ceiling could raise a $4000 home by hundreds, as many letters urge continued building materials oversight.

The Junior group of the American Legion Auxiliary met at Mrs George H Haltom's home on Wednesday at 3 15 pm with Dana Hall Laverne Scott Margaret Richards Betty Anderson Isabelle Wright Virginia Wilkerson and Dorothy Taylor as a visitor present. After a short business session the members filled sewing kits for Fort Bayard Hospital.
The Hidalgo County court house will be closed Monday November 12 to observe Armistice Day.
Gerald Hunt was discharged from the Army early in October and is now living in Lordsburg. After his discharge in El Paso he and Mrs. Hunt took a short vacation in California. They returned about two weeks ago.
Miss Betty Reynolds shows improvement after surgery in Silver City last week and is expected to return home early next week.
Mrs Sibyl Kerr entertained at dinner last Wednesday forMiss Judy Klement Miss Mary Louise Noce and Mrs Alice Steen in a social event reflecting the era's refined hospitality.
Mrs Sibyl Kerr and Miss Judy Klement joined the Noce family in Morenci Thursday for a family reunion.
Mrs John Bednorz is reported seriously ill at her home in Silver City. Friends and family await further news as medical care is arranged.
Pablo Diaz and Miss Rosa Mo relos were married in Lordsburg on the evening of October 20.

The Victory Clothing Collection returns this winter from January 7 to early January end. Mrs Donald Johnson is local chairman for the 1946 drive and urges readers to prepare donations. Henry J Kalner national chairman says every donated pound will reach war sufferers overseas by Christmas with allocations to Albania Belgium Luxembourg Burma Kong Kong Magala China and many European countries including France Greece Italy Netherlands Norway Philippines Poland Yugoslavia and stateless refugees.
The Wednesday Sewing Club was entertained by Mrs. Harry Chase this week. Attendees included Mrs. Hazel Chase Mrs. El bert Coursey Mise Ima Fairly Mrs. G. P. Jeffus Mrs. Donald Johnson Mrs. Alton Powell Mrs. L. B. Robinson and Mrs. Margaret Clark. Guest Mrs. J. A. Foster attended.
Mrs Fishburn of Clifton visited Mr and Mrs W E Oxsheer from Thursday to Sunday. Mr Fishburn joined her on Sunday and they drove home together.
Mrs C E Austin entertained the Wednesday Bridge Club with a foursome including Mrs R E Buvens Mrs H J Rolfe and Mrs H E Ceofield in a social afternoon.
Hugh Sullivan writes friends that he and Miss Margaret Colbert of Beloit Wisconsin plan to marry at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day November 22 in Beloit. They have an apartment and will reside in Beloit.
The Department of Agriculture proposes a national goal of 62,000,000 spring pigs for 1946, aligning with prior spring production. USDA assures support for prices of good and choice butcher hogs at 12 dollars per hundred pounds, spanning October 1, 1946, to September 30, 1947, in Chicago basin markets.
A Navy Treasury Army and Air Force collaboration produced ten 16 mm films including Freedom Democracy Liberty Equality featuring Jeff in wartime. The films are free on request to farm organizations with a borrowable projector. Write to the New Mexico Extension Service at State College to obtain them.

Mr and Mrs J H Kirby visit Mr and Mrs Warren White. Mrs Kirby and Mrs White are sisters. Kirby’s sister Mrs Elete Yearger of Dallas will also visit the Whites next Friday.
Charles Williams arrived home last Monday evening from Santa Fe where he was met by his father T B Williams and Mrs Williams. He was recently released from a Japanese prison camp as a member of the 200th.

Edwin Brown will be discharged from the Seabees at San Pedro next week. Mrs. Brown plans to travel to Los Angeles to meet him as soon as the exact time is known.

Miss Leah Gruwell spent a test weekend with relatives in Lorda burg. She arrived on Friday and returned to Albuquerque on Monday. She is still in the employ of the U. S. Government.
Lordeburg residents attended the city council meeting last Monday. M. M. Owens proposed a one cent per gallon gasoline tax to fund street paving starting in April. Alvin Parker Ted White Geo H E Scofield and L K Differences spoke on the issue. Mrs J A Fouter urged more street signs. A W Pollard of Deming discussed flood control to prevent main street dirt buildup, representing clients in Lordsburg.
Beginning Tuesday November 14 Hidalgo County offices will open at 4 30 a m and close at 4 30 p m by order of the County Commissioners.
The B Sharp Music Club presents its first program of the season at the Methodist Church Monday evening November 10 at 8 o'clock. More information to follow in next week’s Liberal.
The Womans Society of Christian Service plans a food sale at the Community Public Service Company office on Saturday November 17. Proceeds support society projects and local community aid.
Mr and Mrs Rey Harper announce the marriage of their daughter Olive Eleanor to Barney E Easley on November 3 1945 in Long Beach California The couple will reside in Long Beach where the groom is employed Mrs Easley is a teacher in the Long Beach City School District.
Delta Kappa Gamma Theta Chapter held a Thursday meeting with Miss Helen Chase arranging the program. Guest speaker Jack Heather spoke on gratitude to pioneers and the Declaration of Independence. a Christmas party is planned for December 15.
Miss Dorothy Harper of State College Las Cruces spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Roy Harper at Redrock.
