Lordsburg routs Truth Tigers in final game of season

Lordsburg High School roared to a 54 19 victory over the Truth Tigers in the season finale. Key scorers included Jimmy Williams Caesar James Jackson Oscar Dorrance Atkinson Joe Xin Byron Stiles and Camacho with Flores Diaz and Arredondo contributing on passing and rushing plays. The Mavericks led after the first quarter and extended the advantage, while the Tigers managed 19 points in a late surge.

Bank Closure For Veterans Day Observance

The First National Bank will close on Veterans Day Monday November 11. It closes early at 2 p.m. Friday November 8 and opens again at noon Saturday November 9.

Grand Larceny Charge Filed In Lordsburg

Charles B. Hillborn an employee of Gilson's Body Shop is charged with grand larceny for stealing cash from the shop. Joseph Edwards and Othell Bloom also charged. About $350 recovered of nearly $600 stolen. Suspects fled west on Highway 70 then were caught near Franklin after a radio alert. Additional thefts reported include cars stolen from town and property damage during Halloween in Lordsburg.

Loss Of Control Of Car In Wilna Area

State police report a Tuesday dawn crash near Wilna after Bob Haymes of Silver City lost control of his car. He suffered non serious head injuries and hand lacerations and was taken to Deming hospital. The car crossed the highway and left the road, apparently due to the driver falling asleep.

VEW National Home Buddy Poppy Drive Fundraiser

Special to the Liberal reports Bud dy Poppy Day on November 9 in Lordsburg. The VFW sponsor since 1922 channels all funds to veteran relief and the Eaton Rapids Michigan national home for veterans orphans and widows. Commander C R Simpkins urges wearing a Buddy Poppy. the home operates like a usual American family with no uniforms. children attend public school and may choose any church.

CofC Primary Ballots Counted Tie for Eighth Sparks Runoff

The Chamber of Commerce counted primary ballots for board directors on Monday. A tie for eighth place prompted a runoff by listing all nine candidates: R. Dockum, Victor Reay, Harold Bishop, George Jeffus, Leo Cohen, Jack McGhee, Dick Rice, Russell Smith and Claude Speer.
