The police report limited vandalism to a few incidents on Halloween with no malicious damage. A teacher’s cat was smeared with paint, while others note the media’s caution in reporting gruesome detail. An Hidalgo County grand jury investigation is anticipated for a separate highway fraud case.

Cornforth Dies of Natural Causes in Rodeo Home

Cornforth was found in his Rodeo home early morning by his brother. The coroner's jury, held Wednesday morning by Justice of the Peace C. L., ruled death was due to natural causes. Hugh Pace testified about a postgame fight the previous night and that Cornforth was hospitalized days earlier with a broken rib facial cut and pneumonia.

Lordsburg High Hosts Gun Safety Meeting

Thirty five Lordsburg High School students attended a gun safety meeting November 2 at 7 30 p.m. The event, planned with local conservation groups, praised student cooperation and announced a future Junior Gun Club to teach handling marksmanship and safe hunting practices. local conservation officer TM RU Jones promised ongoing support and urged safe practices.

Mavericks Face Jal For Regional Championship Friday

The Mavericks meet Jal in the regional playoff at 1 30 p m on Friday at home after Jal clinched District 4 B. The winner advances to the state championship to face the Northern Regional victor. Lordsburg Hot Springs game was canceled due to rain. Mavericks travel to Willcox for the final regular game tonight.

Dr Sellers Attends 41st Southwestern Medical Meet

Dr and Mrs H W Sellers depart Wednesday for Roswell to attend the 41st annual Southwestern Medical Association meeting November 5 to 7. Dr Sellers serves as president of the Luna Hidalgo Medical Society and is a society delegate.

Lordsburg Assembly of God dedicates new church building

The Lordsburg Assembly of God held a 7:30 p.m. dedication service for its new church building with Mayor Alan Koff and visiting ministers attending. Rev. Raymond Hudson of the New Mexico District spoke, praising the facility as a dwelling place of God and urging dedication of people and spaces. The 3350 square foot building includes six Sunday School rooms, nursery, offices, restrooms, and a baptistry, with central heating and ongoing thanks to contributors.

Leo Griego named man of the week with 22 clues in a Who's Who box a total of 209 players participated. A. L. Blanton is noted as a well known personality and Rev. E. L. Anson had slips in the box. Next week the box will be at Sarge's Shell Service.

Seven Accidents In Two Days Take One Life Injure 3

A 32 hour span produced seven highway crashes near Lordsburg New Mexico. Penay June Kilpatrick of Taluskee Oklahoma died on Hidalgo County Hospital arrival after a car driven by A J Kilpatrick struck a truck and left the highway. Several others were injured or shaken. Minor injuries reported for others involved in various rear end and two car collisions on Highways 80 70 and State Road 14 near the town and nearby areas. State Police cited a driver for driving on the wrong side of the road in one crash.
