The OPPICERS' CLUB hosted a Halloween party at the offers' club with officers, nurses, and guests in attendance. Col. and Mrs. Lundy welcomed new officers, gifts, games, a puppet rodeo, dining, and dancing as Lt. Northman and others led contests and entertainments.
General registration for passenger car fuel rationing will occur at all school houses on November 12 14 and 15. Pickups and trucks are excluded and handled by the Office of Defense Transportation. Exceptions include Animas Cloverdale and Rodeo on November 14. Bring title certificates and tire serial numbers. Owner must sign. no agent unless unable or absent.
Earle Kerr head of the Income Tax Division and Mrs. Kerr, joined by Claude K. Wood of the State Land Office Grazing Department, returned home to exercise the franchise as part of civic duty amid varied participation noted by observers.
The program raises 1100 dollars monthly for War Bonds with soldiers, including a $25 bond per month from one man’s pay. Capt A J Warren and Lieuts C E Jack and R T Humphrey lead by example buying $50 bonds monthly. Many soldiers sacrifice part of their pay despite family duties. The Lavaburg post office notes many men buy extra bonds each payday as the 309th and possibly the 509th contribute their share.
A 1942 Lordsburg New Mexico interment camp bulletin lampoons daily routines. It notes mail calls twice daily and urges contacting the chaplain for gripes while mocking delays and calling soldiers morons and imbeciles. Buck Ligon is praised for rodeo support and sergeants gamble on rummy.
Manuel Salazar returns from Los Angeles aviation project after graduating from Arizona State Teachers College. He volunteers for the army and leaves tonight for the coast to assume his duties, carrying the best wishes of Lordsburg admirers.
Democrats at Hidalgo County convened at City Mall the day after the election. EK M Fisher Jr was elected secretary treasurer Mrs Elizabeth Winters county chairwoman and Claude E Wood re elected County Chairman. The convention urged a legislature to amend election laws to count judges in precincts with over 100 votes and move primary election date to early July. It also urged compensation for election officials transporting ballot boxes and returns.
The family extends gratitude to friends and neighbors for aid and sympathy after the death of Dr. Ross W. Johnson. Special thanks to Bishop Junius E. Payne Virden friends for comforting words and music to Rev. F. R. Poage and Mr. and Mrs. 8. H. Gases Lordsburg for musical help. Appreciation for flowers and support from Mrs. Roas W. Lt Philip Bond has gone to Washington and will not sing at the Armistice Day program. Dr C B Austin will take his place and will sing There s a Star Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere and Tenting on the Old Camp Ground.
Marshall Fuller writes from an Army camp in the U S during World War II describing daily drill, fatigue, and the transformation into a soldier. He notes endless routines, learning to mop and broom, and being armed with rifle and camera to photograph an enemy. He expresses pride in the training and hopes to return home one day.
1st Sgt. Bryan Perrett of the Lordsburg Internment Camp reports his son Bill W Perrett has completed a three month training course at the University of Missouri and earned the rank of petty officer. He is 17 years old and his proud parents plan to celebrate.
The W S C S of the Methodist Church will meet Friday at 4 p.m. in the church Sunday School room upstairs.
Dr. Rose W. Johnson, longtime Denver physician, died after slipping on a hospital stair and striking his head, ending a 36 hour lapse before he could be revived. He served in the Medical Corps overseas and was active with the American Legion, with services held in Lordsburg and burial in Denver.
The Walter family thanks kind friends and neighbors for aid sympathy and prayers. They express gratitude to Virden Lordsburg and Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints members who offered comfort, music and flowers for Charles David Walter and family.
H. M. Pennington returns to Lordsburg after selling interests in Grant county. The noted local figure resumes work in his old city, drawn back by familiar ties and influence, as Lordsburg faces ongoing competition from outside forces.

Middle Antman 11. Steins 27. Cloverdale 14. Cienega 7. most boards led by women. Amendments largely rejected or lightly supported. voter fatigue evident. Local officials cited include County Clerk Mrs. Rachel Atii nson and candidates Kee ne ne Oppes. Major state offices list several races with substantial margins such as Governor Dempsey 667 and Anderson 622. Attorney General Chane 646. Superintendent Lamb 650. Representative White 56%.
Miss Linda Perry weds Elton Mareh and Miss Thelma Weaver weds Johnny Cooper at the Roy Carson home Sunday morning. Families from Duncan, Clifton, Douglas, Harper and El Paso attend as brides and grooms embark on new marriages with servicemen stationed at Ft. Bliss.
The Lions Club held a Tuesday meeting with Lion Harold Scofield presiding. He spoke on Life Inocenes in Wartime and noted life insurance could raise Social Security benefits while Lion Paul Hudson announced Lt E B Mitchell and others have been gathering scrap metal to reach a county quota of 10100 pounds.
Mr and Mrs Frank Billings announce the arrival of an eight pound daughter September 27 Ronnie Mae will be the young name.
Mr and Mrs J R Schwarz return to Lordsburg where Mr Schwarz has taken a position with the Lordsburg Drug Company.
Ruth Wood and Roy Smith wed November four in the Candlebra Church of Christ with an archway of chrysanthemum decor. Percy Krewson officiated. Joann Wood played, and attendants included Mia Atkinson and Naomi Wood as bridesmaids. The couple will reside in Corona, California where Smith serves as pastor.
Stary H Robesom the well known SCS engineer now of Albuquerque greeted his old friends here Monday. The Robesons, the mother and the former Ada Coyner, now have two daughters and a seven month old son.
All rental dwellings in Hidalgo County must be registered by November 15 1942. Registration forms available at the War Price Rationing Board office in the county courthouse.
