Hidalgo County Votes Favor Carter in Presidential Balloting
Hidalgo County leaned Democratic in statewide races while backing Carter in the presidential contest by 938 to 891. Schmitt narrowly led Montoya for U S Senate, Runnels won District 2, and Crawford took District 32 and Luna County. Local measures included a 7.5 mill tax levy approved by 700 to 426 and two constitutional amendments defeated. About 1,865 ballots were cast, roughly 75 percent of registered Hidalgo voters.
