Majority Leader David Mora-Harding faces renewed pressure from party members to secure the Democratic nomination for the 1972 gi pro spoate. The controversy centers on Mora-Harding’s leadership and the party’s internal split.
Hidalgo County rejected Sunday liquor sales with 123 yes to 179 no in a special election. Initial tallies were corrected after a transposed report from Virden showing 8 yes and 38 no. Voters also weighed ten constitutional amendments with varied outcomes and a 25.6 percent turnout.
Benny Valdez, 49, of Lordsburg was treated at Hillcrest General Hospital in Silver City after his car overturned Saturday about 1:50 p.m. on Highway 90 ten miles south of Silver City. He lost control, slid 150 feet along the shoulder, and flipped end over end down an embankment before being released Monday.
Mrs Deloris Heathman of Las Cruces a Mountain Bell training staff member will address the Lordsburg Woman's Club on Monday November 15 at 7 30 pm. She will show a ten minute movie and explain Direct Distance Dialing and its local benefits ahead of the December 19 rollout. The event is open to the public.
Doris McCarty has completed a formal training as an Alcoholism Treatment and Rehabilitation Technician at the Southwest Mental Health Center Las Cruces. She will coordinate services across Hidalgo County with confidential client records and collaboration from Center leaders to expand treatment and prevention efforts.
Mayor Betty H. Lazar came back to work at City Hall last Monday after surgery in Nashville Tennessee and several weeks of recuperation.
The Selective Service System released amendments to draft regulations affecting the 2-S deferment, 1-H classification, and personal appearance procedures. Beginning with the 1972 prime selection group, lottery numbers and inactive 1-H status will shape who faces induction, with local boards accepting views before publication in the Federal Register. The Lordsburg Mavericks overwhelmed theTor C Tigers 50 to 0 behind Ray Hernandez and Joe Guerrero. Hernandez had three touchdowns, Mahan, Guerrero, Gilland and Altuna one each. halftime score 32 0. Mavericks move to 3 1 in season and host Hatch Bears Friday at 8 00.
