Observation Post remarks on Hida County lack of visit and urges support for Lusk in the upcoming governor race, claiming a friend in the state and calling to help elect him.
The Atomic Energy Commission sponsored presentation titled Atomic World will visit Lordsburg High on November 16 and other New Mexico high schools during November. The 40 minute exhibit, run by the Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies, aims to boost science awareness and energy information for secondary students through classroom sessions and a student demonstration program.
The Hot Springs Tigers beat the Lordsburg Mavericks 13 to 6 to drop Lordsburg to two losses and one win in the conference. Hector Sanchez and Ernie Rentria starred on offense while Leandro Castillo Ramon Nava and Scotty Jones led the defense. Lordsburg’s next game is at Hatch against the Bears in a conference tilt.
Lordsburg High School students joined the New Mexico Youth Clean Up Ray on Thursday October 27 under President's Council. About 110 students worked all day with various clubs handling window washing street cleaning weed removal and parking lot repair. Lions Club supplied drinks and snacks as the community supports ongoing cleanup efforts.
The Animas School will hold an Open House Wednesday night starting at 6 30 p m in observance of American Education Week. Supt H R Overholt says all rooms will be open with faculty present and patrons may visit any grade or department. The new Curriculum Materials Center and a Teacher apartment will be open for inspection. An 8 30 p m auditorium program features two plays and teacher introductions followed by a social period for parents to meet staff.
Two local ranchers cooperate with the Las Cruces office of the Bureau of Land Management to improve livestock operations and range condition. George Jackson gets a cat tle guard south west of Animas to manage livestock movement. Joe Bennet of Cliff receives 240 pounds of mixed grama grass seed to restore denuded grass areas.
Friday November 11 marks Veterans Day and most businesses will close in observance. The notice notes widespread closures across sectors for the holiday.
Hidalgo County residents invested 4246 in U S Savings Bonds in September while nine month local purchases totaled 24028. State September sales rose 19.58 percent to 1348810 and nine month state gains reached 21.62 percent. National first nine months sales stood at 3713 million, with Americans owning Series E and H Bonds worth 49.849 billion.
The Lordsburg Lions Club annual broom sale funds their sight conservation effort this weekend. A truck with brooms and household items will be on the parking lot at Amin's and the Up-to-Date Grocery. A house to house sale will also be conducted.
Hidalgo Area Development Corporation HADECO reports nearly 200 members signed in two days of a Monday kickoff drive. The gauge at Mountain States Telephone Co records progress as leaders aim for 500 members. Notables purchasing 100 shares include B M Kimbley and Ralph Burton among others.
President Lyndon B. Johnson is set to arrive in Albuquerque on Sunday November 6 at 6 30 pm a telegram to Leroy McCarty confirms. Democratic county chairman Bruce King and state chairman urge Hidalgo County to assemble a large delegation to greet the president on arrival.
Sunday night about 11 a.m two men broke into the Blue Moon Bar and stole merchandise valued at 300 dollars and cash from a cigarette machine. Entry was made through a roof skylight and loot included liquor in various sizes beer and cigarettes. Edmundo Romo the bar manager said empty beer cans punctured with a screwdriver were found inside.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars will sell poppies through the downtown area Friday and Saturday. Commander Manuel Renteria urged all citizens to support the campaign.
