Billy D. Stiner appealed a police court conviction for drunkenness issued by Police Judge Albert M. Stevens after a Oct 17 charge. He pleaded not guilty on Oct 19 and was found guilty, fined ten dollars and jailed ten days for nonpayment. Ray Hughes of Deming filed the appeal on Oct 30. no bond was required as sentence served. The district court hearing date has not yet been set.

County residents invested in U S Savings Bonds reaching 1 279 309 81 in September 1960. The nine month total was 95 425 96 with the county at 58 33 percent of its annual 100 000 goal. State wide September investments were the largest since 1945, surpassing 1 083 305 47 in the first three quarters.
Rural families in small communities and rural areas may now qualify for Farmers Home Administration housing loans under the 1961 act. Loans cover construction repairs remodeling and essential farm buildings with 4 percent interest and repayment up to 33 years. Eligibility requires ownership of a farm or rural housing site and insufficient other credit amid need and ability to repay.

W. W. Scott escaped serious injuries Saturday after a deer leaped across his car on the way back from Silver City. The crash shattered the windshield and left Scott with a badly cut finger needing stitches as the deer briefly paused before fleeing unharmed.
Last week a $10 donation increased the Cafeteria school bus fund to $100. The Moctezuma Club gave $5 and the Elks Lodge $5, totaling nine contributions supporting the November and December route. Send contributions to Mrs. Charles Williams at 412 W 5th Street for acknowledgment.
The Trick or Treat for UNICEF drive collected a total of 167.72 dollars with 80 to 85 participants including youth and adults. Residents contributed to provide food clothing and medical care for children worldwide.
Twenty five LULAC Club members met at 9 a m at the City Pumping station to start a clean up campaign. They used city equipment to clear rubbish and weeds from the underpass and surrounding property and also cleaned the Wilson school yard the grounds of the new South side school and a lot west of the school. They plan another cleanup day to contribute to a cleaner town.
