Hidalgo County Tax Bills Mailed For One Quarter Revenue

Hidalgo County Treasurer Julia K. Fisher and staff mailed about 3100 tax bills totaling roughly 2.39 million dollars. Revenues support state city county and school authorities. Assessed valuation stands at about 2.39 million, down from last year’s 2.56 million. First half due November 5 with a delinquency date December 5. Second half due February 5 with delinquency on March 5.

Region IV Crime Group probes low law officer salaries

The Criminal Justice Planning Group and Region IV Crimi nal Justice Planning Committee met in Hidalgo County to discuss salary lows for area law enforcement. Chairman Ron Pincomb of Las Cruces warned salaries deter qualified applicants, noting $600 monthly pay vs $1,200 for grocery work. Sheriff Eddie DiMateo supported pooling funds to raise pay. Lordsburg’s Jesus Estrada was represented by his wife Petra.

Representative Sets Local Visit in Lordsburg

Lordsburg residents may transact business and visit with Bureau of Land Management personnel at the Las Cruces Lordsburg Mobile Area Office on Wednesday Nov 7 starting at 9 a.m. Area Manager Roy Jackson notes plans for Deming on Nov 6 and Silver City on Nov 8. The KOA campground will provide office space in the renovated travel trailer. A 64 year old Lordsburg man Peter W Gorter died of natural causes. neighbor found him on Silver Street Tuesday. Sheriff Gene Moore said Dr James Baxter declared death on scene. The Hidalgo County Animal Board meets Nov 8 at 7 30 p.m. in the Junior High Library. Lordsburg Municipal Board Education meets Nov 6 at 7 p.m. in the Board Room, 501 W Fourth St.

Local residents to receive help on utility bills

Hidalgo County will receive about 17933 to aid needy low income families and especially the elderly with utility costs. Governor Bruce King announced New Mexico has obtained 1 392792 from the Community Services Administration to ease utility bills for the poor and elderly amid rising winter costs.

City Council OKs Liquor License Transfer in Lordsburg

Lordsburg city council approved the transfer of Liquor License 859 from Tower Corporation to Pronto Liquor Store and agent George Craig at 1421 South Main. Public input favored the transfer. only Councilman Al Martinez opposed. Mayor Alan Koff noted public hearing procedures.

Lordsburg Organizing Veteran’s Day Celebration

Lordsburg Recreation Department plans a Veterans Day event on Sunday November 11 with memorial services in the afternoon to accommodate churchgoers. Residents from Animas Cotton City Playas and Verd en are invited, with local merchants asked to assist the parade and all veterans and families urged to attend. full details to follow next week.

Hunting License Changes Set for Nov 7 and 8

Tim Eicher of the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will visit Playas on November 7 from noon to 6 PM at Pheljs Dodge Mercantile and Lordsburg on November 8 from noon to 6 PM at the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office. Hunters may change deer hunt periods during these sessions.
