Hidalgo General Hospital trustees reinstated admitting privileges for Dr. Henri Wetselaar after a prior suspension issued May 2 by Hospital Administrator Larry Jarmon and Chief of Staff Dr. J H Baxter. The Tuesday meeting began at 7 p m with general business before revisiting the case.
School board approved the budget and appointed Ted Hern as the Lordsburg coach while Phil Martinez vacated the coaching role. Hern, a teacher at Dugan Tarango, steps into the position following executive discussions.
In a marathon session the Lordsburg school board voted to hire Hern as head football coach and assistant track coach with duties in physical education. He had re applied after resigning from Dugan Tarango. Budget figures show $1,189,083 next year with $28,620 emergency funds and 1,281 projected students for 1974 75.
Coming next week the Lordsburg athletic awards will be presented. A feature with pictures and a story of the athletic clubs will appear in the Liberal at the High School Cafetorium Wednesday.
A Rodeo New Mexico community delegation circulates a petition asking Hidalgo County Commissioners to fund a sheriff's deputy for the Rodeo-Animas-Cotton City area. Spokesman Lucilee Stoehner cites two killings in the last year and lack of responders when help is requested.
Mrs. Pearl Gauthier hosted a birthday dinner for her mother Mrs. Viola Wright to celebrate her 102nd birthday at the American Motor Inn Restaurant. Five generations attended with relatives from Arizona California and Animas. The event included many well wishes including a note from Rev. Billy Graham.
Western New Mexico University history professor Daley Giese will deliver the 8:00 p.m. keynote at the Animas High School gymnasium for the graduating class. Giese, a Baltimore native, has taught since 1969 at Western and previously worked eight years as a National Park Service supervisory historian.
