Lordsburg New Mexico board members met in regular session and adjourned into executive to fix a date and time for a forthcoming meeting with Virden representatives.
Investigation continues into the May 4 fatal shooting of Domingo Varez in Rodeo New Mexico. Lordsburg and Virden officials clash over tuition for Virden students in Duncan Arizona, with Lordsburg proposing to switch Virden students to Lordsburg schools and facing negotiations on a potential $78,000 annual cost.
In a brief morning meeting Hidalgo County commissioners approved a joint road resurfacing project with the State Highway Department. One mile of War Road at Ordsburg would be resurfaced with $2,500 from the county and $2,500 from the state, pending state action. The resolution was sent to state officials in Santa Fe. Regular meeting set for Friday May 10 at 9:00 a.m.
Republican candidate Don Truby visited Lordsburg on May 8 to push his bid for Congress. He said incumbent Harold Bannes is vulnerable this year and outlined priorities for New Mexico: welfare reform, protecting seniors on fixed incomes from inflation, and improving education and training to ensure employment opportunities for the able.

Lifelong resident and businessman R W Dick Allen announces Democratic bid for District Two on Hidalgo County Commission. Former Lordsburg City Council member for 10 years, including four as Mayor pro tem, says he has time and knowledge to run the office and will consider suggestions. Allen owns the Coronado Theater and Chaparral Trailer Parks and belongs to the Lordsburg Elks Club.
