May hearing set for unfair trade charges

The attorney general's office charges Ray Sanchez and Gene Vis with unfair trade practices. A district court hearing is scheduled for Friday May 9 at 10 30 am. The prior hearing date of April 29 in Deming was postponed.

Highway Meeting At City Hall To Discuss By Pass

A public meeting will be held at City Hall tonight at 7 pm by the State Highway Department to discuss the effects of the proposed by pass design on the city. All interested persons are invited and urged to attend.

Juveniles Placed On Probation for Burglary

Two 17 year old juveniles charged with unlawfully entering Richard W. Allen’s residence on Eighth St on April 9 appeared in juvenile court before Judge Norman Hodges. The court found they committed the burglary and placed them on probation with restitution. most items were recovered. Entry was via a sliding glass door while the family was away. Eight other juveniles cited for curfew violations were released to parents after warning.

Golf Club Trustees Meet With FHA Official

Lordsburg Golf Club trustees met with Bill Coinman from the Farmers Home Administration in Albuquerque to discuss financial plans. Awaiting final FHA plans and specifications before bids. A construction start date is hoped for soon.

St. Joseph's Plans Summer Kindergarten Sessions

Father Alderette of St. Joseph's Church announces two summer kindergarten sessions taught by Mrs. Dewey Bothing. Sessions run June 8 to July 3 and July 20 to August 14 with a 25 dollar fee each. Enrollment requires immunization health statement and registration on Sunday June 1 from 11 am to noon at the recreation hall. For more information call 542-3495.

Four Die In Sunday Two-Vehicle Crashes East Of Downtown

A Lordsburg couple died along with two others in two head on crashes about six miles east of downtown on Sunday afternoon. Edward Von Jones 19 and Bethel Colleen Hobbs his wife died from injuries. Deborah Lee Johnson 11 and Clarence Will Johnson 35 of Los Angeles died at the hospital. A third fatality followed when a second wreck struck the first collision scene as a New York couple Randolph G Weiss 20 and wife escaped injury.

Court Rules Against Temporary City Judge in Lordsburg

Alamogordo District Judge Richard M. Stanley ruled against Edward M. Campbell in quo warranto proceedings challenging Campbell’s appointment as temporary municipal judge in Lordsburg. The case centered on ordinance validity, salary changes, and the conduct of City Judge C L Brown amid court access disputes.

Russell Hillock to headline Lordsburg Band Concert

Denver bass baritone Russell T. Hillock will be soloist with the Lordsburg High School Band in a May 12 concert at Maverick Gymnasium. Hillock is associate director of the Denver Lyric Opera Co. and coordinator of music for the Denver Mapleton School District and has appeared in Denver Boulder and Colorado University productions. He will perform selections from Man of La Mancha with the LHS band.

Hospital Levy Vote Planned for June 17 in Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County commissioners will seek renewal of the 3/4 mill levy to support Hidalgo General Hospital. The special election on June 17 also selects a delegate to the constitutional convention. The levy was first approved about four years ago and must be resent to voters periodically.
