Animas High School junior Thorma Jean Vaughn has been selected as a New Mexico Future Homemakers of America delegate to represent the state and the Animas chapter at the National FHA meeting in New York City from July 13 to 16. She has held varied roles at Animas High School including class officer, varsity cheerleader, associate editor of the school paper, and student council vice president during 1969-70, and is active in 4-H and FHA as secretary for the Animas chapter and district secretary. She also serves as the Girls State representative for Animas this year.

Dust storms spark third highway crash near Lordsburg
A 11-vehicle crash involving cars pickup campers and a Trailways bus occurred 16 miles east of Lordsburg after noon. John E. Danielson 73 of Duluth Minnesota was killed when struck after exiting his car. his wife Esther 68 was injured. One man suffered severe head and face lacerations. The State Highway Dept spread bare ground to control dust on the eastbound lane by noon Wednesday.

Pedestrian Killed On City Street
Sipriano Ramirez a 41 year old pedestrian was fatally struck by a car while walking west of Second Street around 1 30 a m daylight saving Sunday. Freddy Carillo Barrio 17 nephew of the deceased said he did not see Ramirez until the impact hurled the body. Ramirez died en route to Hidalgo General Hospital from head injuries while walking home from a dance at La Fiesta Club.
