Tax Evaluation Notices Ready For Mailing

The Hidalgo County Assessor's Office will mail 1989 property valuation notices this week. Taxpayers have 30 days to discuss valuations by letter or in person. Valuations should stay near 1988 levels. Notices come in pre sealed envelopes from a Deming computer firm to reduce postage costs and boost efficiency.

Sportsmen To Sponsor Meeting On Refuge Proposal

The Bootheel Sportsmen's Association sponsors a public meeting Friday April 7 at 7 PM in the Lordsburg Civic Center about turning Grey Ranch into a National Wildlife Refuge. Guest speaker Charles Ault of the Interior Department will discuss the plan. If approved the ranch and nearby land would become the Animas Wildlife Refuge.

City Corner reports cemetery water line repair and volunteer calls

O Spring notes renewed city attitude and maintenance. The Shakespeare Cemetery water line rotted out and replacement will start once materials arrive. Crews will repair potholes citywide next week, weather permitting. Residents urged to report precise pothole locations. City crews haul in sand for ballfields and playgrounds as Lordsburg hosts district little league this year. Volunteers welcome, especially new faces. On April 7, Bootsheel Sportsmen Association hosts a public meeting at 7 p.m. in the Lordsburg Civic Center to discuss Animas National Wildlife Refuge plans in Hidalgo County. Umphres And Hall Hired By Sheriff's Department

Rusty Umphres and Myra Hall are hired as deputy and dispatcher by Hidalgo Sheriff. Umphres brings two years as a certified officer with Lordsburg PD and prior jailer and dispatcher experience. He is assigned to Playas. Hall served as a part time dispatcher for about a year, knows the system, and lives in Lordsburg. Sheriff Billy Darnell states the 1989 90 budget request will mirror last year and notes there are twenty federal prisoners currently.

School Board Meets Tuesday in Lordsburg Jail Facility

The Lordsburg Board of Education schedules its regular meeting for Tuesday April 4 at 7 00 p m in the Board Room of Lordsburg Municipal Schools housed in the county jail The county jail can hold 26 prisoners and presently houses 26 There is a $40000 federal grant application under sheriff s department consideration with a decision expected by July for renovation and restoration funds.
