Scout Court of Honor Held in Lordsburg

Hidalgo District Boy Scout Court of Honor held its Spring Court of Honor on Monday, March 27, in Lordsburg. Robert Barrett presided as scouts across ranks earned and received class badges, Life Awards, and badge pins for Troops 120, 191, and 123. Plans for Cub Kite contest and Camporee were discussed.

High Winds Sweep Rural Area With Sand and Snow

A 68 mile an hour windstorm battered the region last Saturday sending sand into crevices and obscuring the sun. Winds eased at sunset as rain and wet snow began, with intermittent snowfall through the night settling dust and bringing relief to the dry countryside.

Southwestern Island Tourist Association organized

The new Southwestern Island Tourist Association plans to advertise the region from El Paso to Chihuahua City with headquarters in El Paso. Lordsburg seeks 1,500 to join. about 750 collected so far. Aimed at boosting travel, new business, and regional prominence, with a story in preparation for the association folder.

Culberson Elected Vice President at Cattlemen's Convention

Sherwood Culberson, from the Duncan highway ranch, was elected vice president of the Cattlemen's Association during the New Mexico Cattlemen's convention in Albuquerque. He chaired the General Resolutions committee. George A. Godfrey of Animas also attended and served on the Nominating committee. Mrs. Godfrey accompanied him.

Injured Child Improves

Jeppy Jones aged 14 months, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Jones, is recovering after a fall on a cement walk last week. His eyebrow suffered a bad cut requiring seven stitches at the time of the accident.

Rattlesnake Killed In Cave Creek Canyon

Glenn Issacson of Rancho Risco killed a large rattlesnake with 11 rattles in Cave Creek Canyon. It is the first rattler seen there this year, unusual for this early date. Last year rattlers were numerous, with 17 killed on Reeduna ranch.

Greater Lordsburg Candidates For City Election

Greater Lordsburg’s slate includes Alan Koff and several aldermen. J H Jim Kinkema Ward 1 for 4 years, Albert Hill Ward 2 for 4 years, Harry Scofield Ward 3 for 4 years, Cassie Martinez Ward 3 for 2 years, Fausto Noce Ward 4 for 4 years in the April 4 city vote.

Southern Pacific Safety Program At Lordsburg

Southern Pacific hosted about 500 Lordsburg grade and high school students and 250 employees and guests at Lordsburg high school. W Roach and D A Doyle led safety films and a meeting with talks by P D Robinson and W R Adair. The evening program included a band, a Fourth grade performance, a Technicolor movie, and refreshments.

New Ruling On Age Rule For School Athletes

Principal Roy Melugin, vice president of District 4, announces that state schools voted to adjust the age eligibility rule for high school athletes. The new rule allows players under twenty if turning 19 after August 31, except for 1950 51, with a phased start to September 1951.

Jackson Sells Feed Store to David Warren Jr

FE. N. Jackson owner of the Jackson Feed store at 1004 East 2nd street has sold the business and home to David Warren Jr of Separ. The deal closed March 22, 1950. Warren is known in Hidalgo county and taught Veterans on the Farm Training course. The Jacksons plan visits to Phoenix Arizona and Wichita Falls Texas and may relocate nearby.

Kite Contest Postponed to Sunday at Municipal Airport

The Cub Scout kite flying contest is postponed to Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock due to last Sundays weather. Cub Scouts from Grant Luna and Hidalgo districts will participate at the municipal airport. The Tri district contest will also be held at the airport on Sunday April 16.

Mrs Pearl Huber spent Monday in El Paso for undisclosed reasons, staying overnight and returning the next day.
