FFA Dairy and Livestock Teams Shine at Southwestern Contest

In Hatch and Las Cruces the FFA dairy team placed first overall with Rey earning second in judging and Tommy De Vil sixth. Meats and poultry also placed, with high individual honors by Dick De Shazo and others. The district contest saw five teams finish fifth or better and state judging was set for April 3–4 at New Mexico State University with five local members named to crops meats soils and livestock judging squads.

Army Exhibit Shows U S Progress From 1775 in Lordsburg

U S Army exhibit detailing its history from 1775 to the present will visit Lordsburg for one day at High Way 70 and 80. SFC Kayser promotes the display as a call to former soldiers and new recruits, with World War II documents and future Army fields on view.

Selections for Twelfth Annual Girls' State Now Underway

The 12th annual New Mexico Girls' State selects 258 girls for next summer. Brochures and materials go to 105 New Mexico schools. The event at the University of New Mexico runs June 14 to 21 with Mrs. Harry Gilmore directing. The program teaches citizenship by simulating federal, city, and state governments.

Film The Accused Shown at Lordsburg PTA Meeting

The Lordsburg PTA will hold its regular meeting at the high school at 7 30 p m on April 6. A 28 minute film The Accused starring Loretta Young about obscene literature will be shown. Sponsored by the State PTA Council, attendees are urged to attend.

Cotton Day Set For April 17 in Lordsburg

The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce and New Mexico College specialists sponsor Cotton Day on Friday April 17. A noon meal is free for farmers and families. Door prizes will be offered by local merchants and a public fashion show is planned. Details to be printed in the next Lordsburg Liberal.

Drive-In Theatre Opens Sunday With Four Day Schedule

Mrs Ralph Smith announced the drive in theatre will open Sunday and Monday with Buchanan Rides Again starring Craig Stevens and Randolph Scott and short subjects. Show opens at 7 00 p m on Friday and Saturday April 3 and 4 Blaze of Noon will be shown. The drive in will be open Sunday Monday and Friday Saturday until school is out.

Historical Society Organized in Lordsburg

The Old Grant County Historical Society is formed in Lordsburg with L. E. Gay as president, Robert Williams vice president, Fred Johnson custodian, and Jesse Austin secretary-treasurer. Meetings are on the first and third Fridays. The group aims to collect and preserve southwest New Mexico history through interviews, papers, letters and local materials.

Krueger Attends ERX Signalling School in Denver

Harry Krueger an installer for Mountain States Telephone Co. spent last week in Denver Colorado attending an ERX Signalling School held at the telephone company building. Mrs Krueger and children Richard and Billy visited her parents Mr and Mrs Dick Burrell in Phoenix during the week.

New Lettuce Processing Slab Bids Opened in Lordsburg

Bids for two concrete slabs for lettuce processing and car loading in Lordsburg were opened at a Chamber of Commerce meeting. H Bishop Lumber Co. was the low bidder awaiting lease confirmation from Southern Pacific Co. Funds were raised by popular subscription with multiple local contributors listed.

Heather Gives Final March of Dimes Report

Hidalgo County treasurer Harber Heather released a final March of Dimes report showing 1749.50 raised after 178.45 in expenses. The drive included Coffees 76.60 Lordsburg Schools 631.51 Mothers' March 393.81 March of Dimes Cards 283.05 PRMGOS 207.80 Virden 195.97 Coin Collectors 122.81. Vic Reay and Heather thanked all donors and volunteers for their support.
