Ground Broken For New L D S Chapel In Lordsburg
Ground breaking ceremonies for a new L D S Chapel were held on Wednesday March 18 at Ninth and Pyramid streets. Stake President H Vearle Payne honored local church families and volunteers as the Relief Society celebrated its 107th birthday with a pot luck and entertainment including solos Irish readings and duets.

State Patrol Uses Radar to Detect Speeders
The New Mexico Highway Patrol adopted radar to curb excessive speeding on state highways. A test run on main arteries, including Highways 86 east of Hobbs and 80 west of town, showed considerable success. Sheriff Dick Richards and undersheriff Ebb Jackson observed the effort with state troopers Ramse y, Huerta, Tapley and others.

Philip M. McInnis longtime Lordsburg resident died March 19 1953 at the Veterans Hospital Tucson after a year at Fort Bayard Hospital He was born October 25 1891 in Boccatunna Mississippi and spent early life around Laurel Mississippi He served in the Medical Corps in France during World War I He came to Fort Bayard Hospital as a patient in 1921 and married Nell Hall during his time there. Freeburg Heads Southwest N M Educational Association
Supt. Weasley Freeburg, superintendent of the local schools, was elected President of the Southwest New Mexico Educational Association, meeting in Alamo Gordo last Friday. A New Mexico native, Freeburg spent his career entirely in the state, with degrees from Highlands University and the University of New Mexico, and a doctoral stint at Stillwater Oklahoma. He has 17 years as Taos superintendent and six years in Lordsburg, plus teaching stints at Highlands University, UNM, NM Western Teachers College, NM Tech, and NT C.
