Women's Finance Program Begins Monday at Lordsburg Center

A women's finance program starts Monday at 10:00 AM at the Lordsburg Community Center. The session aims to teach budgeting, savings, and small business basics with local instructors and volunteers guiding participants through practical money management and planning exercises.

Grand Jury Petition Filed Here in Hidalgo County

A grand jury petition was filed with the District Court Clerk in Hidalgo County. Hidalgo County Clerk Margaret Coogan verified 212 net signatures from 214, with 197 of signers registered voters. County voter totals were 2,873 on November 3, 1990 and 2,887 on March 8, 1991, making five percent threshold 145 voters. 197 signatures meet this. A similar petition in 1990 was denied by Sixth District Judge Manual Saucedo, who cited redundancy with State police investigations and economic concerns. Saucedo has recused.

Screening Program March 27 For Lordsburg Early Childhood

A screening for the Early Childhood Special Education Program of Lordsburg Municipal Schools will be held at R V T on March 27 1991. The program serves children at least 3 in 1991 not yet in kindergarten with disabilities or delays in intellectual language motor social-emotional or self help skills. Early intervention can reduce handicapping effects and help families. Alliance Sponsoring Service The Southwest Ministerial Alliance sponsors an Easter Sunrise Service March 31 at 6 00 a m at Valley View Community Church Cotton City with Rev Edwin Trapp as speaker. Special music and testimonies, benevolence offering, refreshments after. Public invited. Warrants paid lists appear on pages 7 and 8. Lordsburg city list due next week.

Tree Planting Honors Hidalgo Service Personnel at RV Traylor

Howard Brunje told instructors and students Friday at RV Traylor school a tree was planted to honor Hidalgo service personnel. Brunje, discharged from the U S Navy 45 years ago, helped dedicate the Eldarica Pine funded by a $100 county grant with Southwest Growers assistance. Music was provided by Pat DeLa Garza and Frank Bell, a teacher at RV Traylor, is currently serving in the Persian Gulf.

City Landfill Project Off To A Slow Start

The Lordsburg landfill project opened with a small turnout at the public hearing on March 13. City officials led by Mayor Salvador Diaz Jr outlined state rules, staffing needs, and operating hours while discussing future recycling steps and potential equipment for waste separation and processing.

Dedication Sunday Doors Honor Ted And Edith White

The First United Methodist Church of Lordsburg installs stained glass panel doors in memory of Ted and Edith White. Terri Jackson created the glass with Art Bryan of Lordsburg. fundraising led by Barbara Brunner. Dedication occurs on Palm Sunday with doors viewable by parishioners and visitors.

Landsail Races Mark Tenth Year in Lordsburg Event

Lordsburg Optimist Club marks the tenth Landsail Races with 16 entrants from outside town and invites locals to bring Landsailers. Events April 13 14 eight miles west at Gary Over Pass include a kids bicycle rodeo 10 AM and trophies for top three in each age group. Also a horseshoe tournament and booths. Valenzuela Arrested After Border Checkpoint

Pete Valenzuela, sought by U S Marshals for aiding prisoners to escape and for failing to appear, was apprehended Tuesday near Rodeo at a Border Patrol checkpoint. He is jailed in Luna County, with another detainee held in Hidalgo County Jail. the jailbreak occurred June 10, 1989. Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by Knights of Pythias in Hidalgo County.

Good Friday Service and Easter Egg Hunt Planned

Scripture Baptist Church schedules a Good Friday service on March 29 at 1 00 P M at 136 E Railway Blvd lasting about an hour. A separate Easter event on March 30 will parade bicycles from Western Bank to Hidalgo County Fairgrounds for an egg hunt with hundreds of eggs, prizes for best decorated bikes, coloring sheets for schools, and special prizes for gold and silver eggs. Harvey Lang of the local K of P Lodge invites all area children to join in the activities.
