Captured After Hours Of Freedom

Walt Hayfield of the Border Patrol and officers recaptured three escapees, Marvin Vaughan Caldwell and Martin, after a chaotic escape from the Lords County jail. The trio commandeered a 1949 Chevrolet, fled toward Lordsburg, abandoned the car near Wells and continued on foot before being captured.

Lordsburg Peanut Basketball League ends with tournament

A four team fifth grade league from Lordsburg schools organized six weeks ago held a post season tournament on March 13 featuring teams from Wilson Central and Hachita. The Hachita Billy Goats defeated Wilson Wildcats 19 to 16 in the championship. final standings issued with Hachita first, Wilson Wildcats second, Knotheads third.

Famous Worlds Fair Show to Be Here March 24

Levi's Electric Puppet Rodeo, a famous exhibit from the Golden Gate Expositions, will perform here. Promoters Leo Cohen and Carl Lehman tout it as the most complex mechanical sound display. The show travels aboard its own monster streamlined truck and features 29 hand carved puppets in a complete Western Rodeo in miniature with judges announcer cowboy singer bucking horse clown and mule.

Mavericks Make Good Record Last Half Of Season

The Lorrs burg Mavericks finished 1953-54 with 18 wins and 13 losses. They went 15-3 in conference play, with key losses to Virden Cliff and Capitan. They posted 1,556 points in 41 games and 1,323 points against, earning two tournament wins and two third-place finishes before the season ended.

The Lordsburg Municipal Schools will be dismissed Friday March 19 at 1 45 PM for the spring meeting of the Hidalgo County Teacher Association. The meeting will be held in the high school auditorium beginning at 2 PM.
