Hazel Ewing born Hazel Hollingsworth June 19 1897 in Midland Texas was a longtime educator and community volunteer. She and husband Patrick M Ewing ranched in Lordsburg Playas and Clifton before settling in Tucson where she taught Bible study and served in church and library roles. She died March 13 1988 and left four children seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Her life spanned teaching county work and faith driven service across New Mexico and Arizona.

National Agriculture Week runs March 20 to 26 marking the 15th anniversary of Agriculture Day. Sheila Massey of New Mexico Women Involved in Farm Economics promotes recognizing the food and fiber industry and its 21 million workers. A Taxation and Revenue Department representative will assist low income residents at Hidalgo County Court House Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Lordsburg City Council Reappoints Officers and Approves Lease Move
The newly formed Lordsburg City Council on Wednesday 9th reappointed city officers and all seventeen employees at pay eleven or above. Mayor Clark Smith proposed Danny Placencia as Mayor Pro tem, a motion approved unanimously. Bids for a new landfill excavation were read but all bids rejected to protect the solid waste fund. The council plans to lease a scraper with ripper teeth for 30 to 45 days, postponing the pit to the next fiscal year starting July, and will advertise bids for the scraper lease.

Robert R. Mesa died at Memorial General Hospital Las Cruces at age 22. Born April 10 1965 in Lordsburg he lived in Midland Texas three years and Las Cruces last year and a half. Ida Bartlett Dies At 84 In Lordsburg
Ida Bertha Bartlett aged 84 died Saturday at Sunshine Haven Nursing Home. Born March 10 1904 in Galveston Texas she lived in Lordsburg since 1936 and once owned Redwood Garden Flower Shop. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm at Baca's Heather Funeral Chapel with Rev Emil Herzog and burial in Mountain View Cemetery. She is survived by husband Dennis Bartlett a son Hubert Wellman eight grandchildren nine great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren. Juanita Bowman preceded her in death in 1980. Pallbearers were Frank Chaires Herbert Saucedo Glen Dorsett Jiggs Reed Phil DeFoor and Richard Chaires.
