Formed Odeo PTA Has Good Programs

A newly formed PTA organized on November 10 with nine charter members. Next meeting is March 30 with teachers meeting at the site to discuss service books and object lessons. Officers were adopted at the November 10 session with Mrs L H ent and Mrs C Eas secretary treasurer. January 12 featured a motion picture and plans for a play entertainment with Mrs Roy Edington named chair of committees. February 8 action shows PTA voting to sponsor continuing activities.

Scouts Collect Paper for Jamboree and Camp Funds

Both cub and senior units of the Scouts are collecting paper to raise funds for a Jamboree and Camp expenses and troop equipment. The Wohlsburg Ward welfare project has installed a paper shredding plant to process all paper collected in the town. Continued on Page 5.

Youths Figure In Arrests Made By Local Officers

Four teenage boys traveling cross country in stolen cars were picked up by Lordsburg police this past week. William E. Brooks 16 and Russell Matthews 17 were arrested March 11. They had a 1950 Plymouth sedan and loot taken in a prior incident continued on Page 5.

Godfrey Heads New Mexico Livestock Committee Slate

New Mexico cattlemen will elect committee chairs for the 36th annual New Mexico Livestock Association meeting in Albuquerque March 26 to 27. G W Evans notes 5300 ranchers belong to the group. S Culberton of Lordsburg named chair of General Resolutions. other chairs include Development and Conservation Hayward Cimarron. Paramount Stars Stop In Lordsburg

Alan Ladd and Mona Freeman rode the Sunset Limited into Lordsburg on a Tuesday morning en route to the AVA ranch in Cave Creek canyon where Paramount Pictures is filming a western. Bystanders gathered as the stars appeared, with AVA ranch transforming into an 1800s western village setting around the main house, two tenant houses, a smaller house and a corral.

Lehman's To Hold 10th Anniversary Sale in Lordsburg

Lehman's clothing store in Lordsburg marks its tenth year in business with a store wide anniversary sale. Carl Lehman opened the shop in 1940, moving from Duncan Arizona where his brother Joseph runs a similar store.

Railroad Club Passes to Glendon Clark and Wife

The Railroad club in the Cueto building on East Railroad avenue was sold by Ralph P. Smith to Mr. and Mrs. Glendon Clark of Hurley New Mexico. The Clarks who run the Chino cafe in Silver City took possession on March 15. Mr. Smith, a Lordsburg pioneer, began in 1917 in the St Alma area and later took over the Blue.

Candidates to form line outside courthouse on filing day

At a county meeting it was decided that all candidates wishing to file on April 4 must form a line outside the courthouse and cannot enter before 9:00 a.m. The county clerk will recognize the line.

Col J R Super Guest Speaker At BPW Meeting

Col J R Super was the guest speaker at a BPW meeting held last Thursday in the American Legion hall. The Legion auxiliary served a baked chicken dinner in a St Patrick theme setting with ivy and shamrocks on the banquet tables. Rev M R Stroup gave the invocation and two high school students Margaret Richards and Marise Coursey along with Music Instructor Roger Welles provided entertainment including piano, violin, and vocal solos.

Ambrose Groves and Bert Miller, dubbed Western hero and tough nut, face trouble after being booted from a train in the desert. They wander toward California, ending up in Dead Man's Gulch as they amid rough conditions and misadventure.
