New Lordsburg Council Forms Under Ted White Leadership
Lordsburg Mayor Ted White formally took office Tuesday night as the town council met at City Hall Chambers. White announced appointments including Lupe S. Rivera as City Clerk Treasurer and Harold Jorgensen as Mayor Pro-tem. The council reappointed Police Chief C C Slick Gray and Fire Chief Charles R Walter and eyed public notice rules for all future meetings.

Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce directors report a net banquet gain of 249 dollars after 495 receipts and 243.37 in expenses. Upcoming RC&D meeting set for April 25 in Lordsburg and Regional Economic Development board gathering March 26 at City Hall. Fugitive William Bell Detained After Lordsburg Pickup
Hidalgo County Sheriff Gene Moore says William Bell 19 of San Bernardino California is held in Hidalgo County Jail after Lordsburg Police nabbed him during a routine check. Bell is wanted on a Virginia fugitive warrant and faces seven counts of bad checks sought by the FBI.

Fire damages home in Lordsburg. children rescued
Firefighters from the Lordsburg City Fire Department responded to 1308 S Animal Street for a blaze at Jessie Still’s home. The interior suffered extensive damage and two children aged five and eight were overcome by smoke and taken to Hidalgo General Hospital, where they were later released.

Jal Beats Animas 77 61 In State Tournament Tilt
Jal dominated the boards and tempo to defeat Animas 77 to 61 in Class AA at the State Basketball Tournament in Albuquerque. Animas star James Bagwell, the state scoring leader, picked up three early fouls and fouled out late, finishing with 32 points while Lynn Hatch added 11 for Animas.

Jarmon Named Administrator at Hidalgo General Hospital
Hidalgo General Hospital announces the hiring of Larry L. Jarmon as administrator effective March 1, 1974. Jarmon comes from Dallas where he led South Oak Cliff General Hospital, a fifty bed facility, and holds degrees from Inter American University and Trinity University plus a hospital administration residency in Dallas. He is a West Texas native, married with two children, residing in Glen Acres.

Hidalgo County Sheriff deputies probe two deaths in a Lordsburg home last weekend. An 88 year old man Joe S. Lopez and a 17 year old girl were found by Officer Phil Rodriguez and Deputy Rudy Lara at 103 East 6th Street. Autopsies planned at Ft Bayard. results unavailable.

Basketball Tourney Alters School Days in New Mexico Districts
Animas and Lordsburg schools dismiss early due to Hidalgo County teams in the State Basketball Tournament in Albuquerque. Animas ends classes Wednesday at 1 30 with no Thursday or Friday sessions and a March 18 to March 25 spring break. Lordsburg also cancels Friday classes as cheerleaders and pep club depart.
