Calumet and Arizona Mining Announces 10 Percent Wage Increase

Manager Karl I. Mohler told the Liberal that effective March 16, 1923 and until further advised, daily wage employees of the Calumet and Arizona Mining Company will receive a 10 percent increase in wage rates. The “old 85” is noted as a major property in the state.

Railroad Consolidation Discussed By Traffic Expert

Washington reports that L. J. Spence of Southern Pacific urged keeping the Southern Pacific System intact in a proposed consolidation. He indicated the company does not seek neighbors’ property but favors a limited number of consolidated systems under the Interstate Commerce Commission plan.

Greatest Year for Baseball Predicted by Local Merchants

The Lordsburg Mercantile Co and J. W. Bell predict 1923 will be the fourth greatest year in baseball history. Bell, manager of the hardware department, says baseball has had its greatest successes in the past three years and views college and professional sports as natural extensions of nationwide physical culture and athletics.

New Wilkinson & Carter Store Hosts Auspicious Opening

Mrs. Wilkinson reports 250 guests at the Wilkinson and Carter opening last Saturday. Crowds filled the day from morning to evening as tickets were given with hats and purchases. Miss Bessie Everett, a popular post office clerk, won the 4:30 prize drawing. A luncheon was served, with Mrs. Wilkinson aided by Mrs. Hancock, Mrs. Brooks, and Donna Turpin at the punch bowl.

Lordsburg High School Dramatic Club Plans Mock Wedding

Rumors of a humorous fundraiser play circulate as the Dramatic Club schedules a mock wedding with Lordsburg’s actors and actresses. Miss Josephine Bailey as bride, Pete Chase as groom, Harvey Tyson as preacher, Miss Oma Powers and Martin Foley as parents, Miss Ruby Peak as bridesmaid, Claud Olney as best man, and Miss Viola Thomas as flower girl. Bold Hold-Up And Quick Capture Of Daring Auto Thieves

At midnight two Los Angeles visitors stole a car from Scott Garage in Lordsburg after checking in at Hotel Hollow. They loaded cash from the office, abducted Dr Augustin del Campo from his Chandler, and attempted to flee toward Aden before their car was recovered near the smelter. Sheriff Oscar Allen, Eugene Montague, and Picking Anderson tracked them to Paso and Vaso, where both suspects faced $6000 bonds on two counts. del Campo’s car was returned undamaged.

China Copper Company Faces Expanded Output at Gallup Mines

The Ching Copper Company reports Gallup coal mines ensure fuel supply for a self-sustained China unit with ore reserves of 105 million 5,804 tons at 16.2 percent copper. Daily ore capacity has grown from 1,000 to 11,000 tons with about 1,950 workers. Last year output reached 28,066,414 pounds copper at 12.19 cents per pound. sales averaged 13.60 cents. Current assets total 84,900,027 and current liabilities 5,040,254 with a working capital of 2,459,772 as of December 31, 1922.
